Hi,
I do not know the fix for your problem, however lets discuss, users, address book and outlook express. Instead of having multiple computers for each person the Windows operating system allows one computer to serve individually for each person. In other words, when a users logs on they are actually treated as they have their own computer. Just like a individual computer each user has their own Internet Explorer, Outlook Express, Address Book, My Documents folder and etc. This is accomplished by having a complete set of files and folders for each user. Go to My Computer, choose your hard drive, choose Documents and Settings, you will see a folder for each user. ----------------- As each user has their own set of files, programs and etc. it is difficult to see how you and your wife are having a problem with address book. ----------------- The Address Book is part of the Windows operating system, when Windows was installed it also installed the Address Book as a accessory Choose start on the desktop, select Programs, select Accessories, and you will find the Address Book. Outlook Express and other programs, like Microsoft Works, use the Windows Address Book. As indicated above, each user is treated like having their own computer, they have their own Address Book in their files. ---------------- Outlook Express has the ability to share it's use with different individuals, Identities, not to be confused with users. Remember, each user has their own Outlook Express, therefore each has the ability to set up their own Identities. For explanation of Identities, open Outlook Express, choose Help, choose Contents and Index, on the Index tab scroll to Identities. In my user account when I open Outlook Express/File/Identities/Manage
Identities I find "Main Identity" listed in all three boxes on that page. And then, when I do the same under my wife's account, I also find "Main Identity" in all three boxes. Does this mean I've configured our e-mail accounts incorrectly or does this just mean that the identity of that particular instance of OE that's open(my user account...or my wife's account) is the "Main Identity" for that account? I don't have extensive experience with OE identity use. Someone may offer a
more informed answer. That said, the identities in use should have their own distinctive name. It is doubtful that just renaming the second and third (Main) identities in use will be the fix. It will likely be necessary to remove two of the identities and begin again. When creating a new OE identity give it a new name. I have never seen multiple instances of a named Main Identity. I can only
suppose that when the extra identities were created, and asked for a name, you repeatedly entered Main Identity for each one. If this is the case, OE's WAB may just be totally confused. Never seeing this before, I can only tell you what I believe will fix your problem, but I am not sure if it will work. You need to do this for each identity, but since they currently have the same name, you may have to experiment a bit. Start with ID#1 and: File | Identity | Add New Identity. Create a new one and test it. If all is well, you can import your messages from the old identity. Repeat for each identity, but make sure you give each a specific name such as randolindso number one, extra account, and Spare account. (Only suggestions as long as each name is different). You need to create new user accounts for you and your wife.
From a post by Malke: make a new account and copy the data from the other two into it. If you want the new account to have the same settings as one of the other accounts, follow the instructions at the link below. Otherwise, just copy over your data. You will need to log into the new account once before you can copy anything to it. I just read some more M'soft literature about the address book in regards to
the registry settings for WAB.... HKEY_CURRENT_USER/Software/Microsoft/WAB/WAB4/WAB File Name....The data for this key on my pc is" C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\Application Data\Microsoft\Address Book\Administrator.wab". Can someone with OE address book working correctly compare their registry data to this? Thanks in advance.
