![]() I use Outlook Express for e-mail, but preview and delete many messages off the Earthlink server using their webmail program. I have a new PC and even though I delete an e-mail using webmail, the deleted e-mails still download into Outlook Express when I open it. This does not happen on my other, older PC's. It is set up properly; the box in Tools-Accounts, etc. reading "Leave a copy of messages on server" is not checked and never was. Earthlink tells me that I am the only person that has reported this problem. -- Tom Wilson |

About the only way I can think of that this could happen is if you open
the list of messages in web mail, then before you delete them, OE does a Send and Receive. A variation on that would be if you are running some anti-spam software that would be prefetching the messages which OE then gets from the anti-spam software. -- Mike - http://pages.prodigy.net/michael_santovec/techhelp.htm "Tom Wilson" wrote in message ... Thanks. I think that it is OE as I turned off this PC and used another one to
delete messages using the Earthlink webmail. Those messages did not download when I booted this PC and opened OE. I have McAfee Security Center installed, but have had the Spam Blocker turned off since the installation. But I still have a problem as I am fairly certain that OE is configured to not leave deleted messages on the server and yet I'm still downlaoding the deleted messages if this PC is turned on and connected by cable modem to the internet. Is there anything else to try? Could it be a problem with this installation of OE? -- Tom Wilson "Michael Santovec" wrote: About the only way I can think of that this could happen is if you open the list of messages in web mail, then before you delete them, OE does a Send and Receive. It sounds like the server is not honoring the delete request right away.

Try deleting the pop3uidl.dbx file (hidden). It will download the messages
once more, but then it should fix the problem. Maybe. G steve "Tom Wilson" wrote in message ... Thanks. For it to be an issue in OE, OE would have to download the message
before you deleted it via the web interface and then the message not get deleted by OE. It's up to the mail server as to what is available for download. All OE does (or pretty much an POP3 mail client) is ask the server for a list of available messages and then OE asks for the messages one at a time. As Frank suggested, it might be an issue of the web interface. I've seen some ISPs use a 3rd party web program that does IMAP access. This adds another layer of software. And it may be that after you delete messages via the web interface, there could be several minute of delay before they actually get deleted on the mail server. -- Mike - http://pages.prodigy.net/michael_santovec/techhelp.htm "Tom Wilson" wrote in message ...
