I get tons of spam that is HTML only....no text. Virtually all legitimate
HTML e-mail contains text also. There seems to be no option under message rules for blocking email with no text. I would like them to not be downloaded from server. Any ideas on how to block these? |

In mail rules there are several "conditions" I can select, then I have
several options, one of which is to not download, or to delete from server. But HTML ONLY is not one of them. And about "Read all messages in plain text": There are many legitimate messages, such as newsletters, that have text but have to be read in HTML (Komando, for example). But IE6 will not let me open the HTML attachments. (It used to - don't know what changed. (I'm using ZoneAlarm firewall and AVG Free edition anti-virus). Ken "N. Miller" wrote in message ... Because OE does not filter on HTML messages or part the HTML part of a
message. Never has. It will only look at the text part. Believe me, it's been asked for since OE5.0, I know I asked during the beta. "Ken_B" wrote in message news:4QUog.93683$IZ2.84467@dukeread07... MS Outlook Express can only filter on the following header items useful against spam: Subject: From: To: CC: Using these you can delete email from the server before downloading. MS Outlook Express can also filter on body text; but it has to download the message from the server to do that. As you note, there is no way to distinguish HTML only email from mixed MIME types. -- Norman ~Oh Lord, why have you come ~To Konnyu, with the Lion and the Drum |

Short of running your own MTA, or switching to a different email client, I can't think of anything that you could try. MS Outlook Express just isn't designed for extensive filtering of email. -- Norman ~Oh Lord, why have you come ~To Konnyu, with the Lion and the Drum |

There seems to be no option under message rules for blocking email with no text. I would like them to not be downloaded from server. Any ideas on how to block these? Hello Ken There are only two ways, that I am aware of, to stop HTML or the .gif type spam emails from arriving in your in-box. 1. Use an ISP who do it for you - more and more are getting this software - Brightmail have something to do with it 2. A very long winded method which I read in these groups and which is reported as 'working' - use message rules to block any message that 'does NOT contain the letter "a"' Then work through the alphabet - yes 26 rules!!!!!!!!!!!! I am fortunate to have an ISP that does filter ALL spam including the .gif photo style of spam i.e. stock market and medicines and betting. Once a week I go to my mail box and clear all the crxp out and send genuine messages to my in box. Hope this is of some assistance. I think more pressure should be bought to bear on the ISPs to get their fingers out and provide this service. It appears to me that most are still doing very little to stop, prevent or deter spamming. Rgds Antioch |
