After uploading an update, my Address Book dumped. I have a back up, but get
an error message that the import did not happen. I don't believe my .wab file is NOT corrupted as I have two copies on two different media. Can anyone help? -- Thanks From Scotty23 |

First, right click on the backup and remove the Read Only attribute.
Just opening OE and trying to import won't work. Open OE and then *open* the Address Book. Thanks Bruce. Yep, I import via the Address Book, and yep I unselected "read
only." I get the error message: "An error occurred during the import process. If you downloaded KB911567 and then lost your Address Book download the
following patch to correct the problem. Your AB should then be viewable and an import not needed. Patch KB918651: http://tinyurl.com/mx3r2 This patch addresses some of the issues that were caused by KB911567. Address Book problems. Unsent templates appearing as sent. Manually compacting will now reset the registry counter to Zero in WinXP/SP2. To complete the fix for .eml templates, a registry change is needed. See: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/918766 Tom Koch also has this information at his site, along with a downloadable Zip file to do the registry change for you. Hi Jim,
It happened after one of those "multiple update" downloads. I didn't notice the import problem for a week or two after the update. That was the only thing that changed on my computer during that time. I cannot tell you what update may (or may not) have caused this to happen. I've got multiple copies of wab32.dll. Version under "common files\system" is 6.0.2900.2869; version under "service pack files" is 6.0.2900.2180. I also have wab32.dll files in $ntservicepack directory. -- Thanks From Scotty23 "Jim Pickering" wrote: What update? Operating system in use? File version number shown in Properties for wab32.dll ? 1. Download the following update, saving it to your hard-drive:
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...2-98af2256ccc3 2. Close all running applications including Outlook Express and Address Book. 3. Double-click on the saved file to install it & reboot. Now try opening the Address Book by double clicking it and see if you can export the contents as a CSV (Text) file which should import into any address book. And you can create a new address book by using the Start/Run line and type: WAB /a However that new address book will not be recognized in Outlook Express until you make a registry edit at this key pointing to the new WAB file at its new location: Close OE and the address book. Run regedit.exe and navigate to this key: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\WAB\WAB4\Wab File Name Right-click on (Default) in the right-hand pane and enter your new path to the *.wab file. Close Regedit and open OE to use the new *.wab immediately. The new wab file should import w/o problem from the saved CSV (Text) file. Post back if you continue to have problems. -- Jim Pickering, MVP, Outlook Express https://mvp.support.microsoft.com/pr...8-1171988A62D6 Please deliver feedback to the newsgroup, so that others can be helped. Thanks Jim! It worked. I downloaded the update, installed and re-booted.
Did not need to do the rest -- the import function worked great from my back-up file. Thanks for saving my address book with 9000+ addresses! Glad to hear it worked, but 9000+ addresses? Most people have a problem
with a "blank" address book as they come up to and/or exceed 999 contacts. Thanks for the feedback. -- Jim Pickering, MVP, Outlook Express "Scotty23" wrote in message ... Thanks Jim! It worked.
