Extensions are the characters (usually three or four letters, such as .doc,
..txt, or .html) that follow the period at the end of a file name. Extensions
are associated with a particular type of file. The file type identifies the
program, such as Microsoft Word, that is used to open the file.

What is the extension of the attachments you can open and the extension of
the ones you cannot?.

Hi Julie,

There is several ways to create a file association.

As said in previous post you need to know the extension of your attachment
and which program should be used to open it.

If the above is known, save the file (attachment) to disk. Then do a
Shift-Right click and choose Open With and then tell it what program to open
it with and check the option to always open it with this program.

If you save the file (attachment) to disk of one of those attachments you
can open, then do a Right click, choose Properties, you will notice it does
state which program is assigned to open it with.

How do you create an association in the Folder Options control panel?

It is much easier and safer to create an association as I described in
previous post.

However, if you would like to view your file extensions and which programs
are associated to them.

You can access Folder Options via Control Panel or open My Documents, choose
File, on its menu choose Folder Options.

In the Folder Options dialog window select File Types tab.
