Win XP SP2 and updated patches. I need to re-install what could be a corrupt
version of OE6. Without reformatting and re-installing the operating system how can I re-install OE6 or repair it? |

Problems with OE are usually caused by related files, not by OE6 itself, so
reinstalling it is not usually much of an answer. Look at the sites below to see if you can find your specific problem or post back here with actual error messages if possible. -- Still the best sites for OE details http://www.insideoe.tomsterdam.com/ http://www.oehelp.com/ Charlie "Learner" wrote in message ... A friend of mine is having problems sending or receiving emails. Her
Internet Service Provider has suggested there may be a problem with OE and suggested a re-install may be needed. Before I go around to her place tomorrow to check if all settings etc are ok I thought I should be forearmed with the "knowledge" to effect a repair if possible. "Charlie Tame" wrote in message ... I very much doubt that reinstalling OE will fix anything, but this article
tells how: How to Reinstall or Repair Internet Explorer and Outlook Express in Windows XP http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=318378 Make sure your anti-virus is turned off. If she has Zone Alarm 6.5 it will probably have to be uninstalled before you can change the Registry. -- Frank Saunders, MS-MVP OE/WM http://www.fjsmjs.com Please reply in newsgroup. As Charlie says, much better to find out what is wrong rather than re-installing. Try this link for lots of suggestions, the link for Repairing/reinstalling is towards the bottom. http://www.microsoft.com/windows/IE/.../oerepair.mspx -- Kath Adams MS MVP - Windows (IE/OE) |

Thanks everybody for your suggestions. I think I now have some more
knowledge to attempt a repair (if required). "Learner" wrote in message ... Win XP SP2 and updated patches. I need to re-install what could be a corrupt version of OE6. Without reformatting and re-installing the operating system how can I re-install OE6 or repair it? |

Good news - there was no OE problem, as suggested by the Internet Service
Provider. It was a problem at their end! This was fixed after about 45mins of talking with them on the phone. Always amazes me how ISP's always seem to think the client has the problem and they (the ISP) never do. Anyhow, all's well that ends well. "Learner" wrote in message ...
