Default Failure Installing OE ver 6

Hi, I am currently running Win XP & ( MS I.E. Ver:
6.0.2900.2180.xpsp_sp2_gdr.050301-1519 )
When attempting to install the Free version of OE 6, I get the following
error message "setup has detected a newer version of IE 6 already installed
on the system. Setup cannot continue"
Is there a way around this problem ?

What *Free* version? OE is a part of IE and are part of your XP operating
system. In that sense, they were free from the start. There is no other
version.

There is no paid version of OE. When SP2 was installed on your machine so
was OE6. Search for msimn.exe - it should be in C:\Program Files\Outlook
Express.

Default Failure Installing OE ver 6

Dear Frank,

Thanks for enlightning me. I checked out what you stated, and sure enough I
found the folder and found the following files, but strangely enough NOT the
one you indicated viz. msimn.exe. These were the only ones in the folder :

C:\Program Files\Outlook Express\msoe.dll
C:\Program Files\Outlook Express\msoe.txt
C:\Program Files\Outlook Express\msoeres.dll
C:\Program Files\Outlook Express\oeimport.dll
C:\Program Files\Outlook Express\oemig50.exe
C:\Program Files\Outlook Express\oemiglib.dll
C:\Program Files\Outlook Express\setup50.exe
C:\Program Files\Outlook Express\wab.exe
C:\Program Files\Outlook Express\wabfind.dll
C:\Program Files\Outlook Express\wabimp.dll
C:\Program Files\Outlook Express\wabmig.exe

I must also just state the OE is presently NOT installed on my system. No
"Start Program , or a desktop icon even. Not sure how my I.T. people
wangled it, perhaps it was so set up as part of the image they use to load on
new PCs.

What I still need to know is, is it possible the still install OE
regardless, and given the above info, how do I go about doing so ? It seems I
have an important file "missing" (perhaps on purpose).

Your further advice will be much appreciated.

Kind regards
Maurice

Okay, it is possible for the IT people to install Windows without msimn.exe.
If they have done so you should get their permission before installing it.
They may have a very good reason and it's their machine.

How to Reinstall or Repair Internet Explorer and Outlook Express in Windows
XP

Make sure your anti-virus is turned off.
The section
"Windows XP and Windows XP SP1: Edit the registry and install Internet
Explorer 6"
works on earlier versions of Windows.

What problem do you think reinstalling OE6 might resolve?
