Hi All!
This message was initially posted he http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/e...c-7680e31d70f0 This was the message: Hi! I suddenly have a situation where I clearly see messages being downloaded using Outlook Express, but while the message itself is shown in bold print as it arrives in the folder, the folder name (to the left of the messages, if you follow my drift) does not become bold, showing new messages. I physically have to open each sub folder in my inbox (message rules cause certain messages to go to different sub folders) to see where new messages haev gone to. What may I do to rectify this? I use WinXP professional, OE6. Kindest possible regards Harry Fröhlich Bethlehem, South Africa Any help, please? Harry |

Create a new Identity and import the mail from the old Identity.
If you only have a few message rules, create them again. If you have several rules, let me know and I will describe how to move the rules. -- Ron Sommer "Harryf" wrote in message ... Hi All! Folders.dbx keeps the read and unread count.
Creating a new Identity will create a new folders.dbx. -- Ron Sommer Reply from xpgeneral: Hi Ron! How will that make any message that is downloaded cause the folder into which it is downloaded become highlighted? It is not so much about message rules as it is about the folder not showing that "new" messages are in it. Even the standard "Inbox" folder is not highlighted when messages arrive that do not go to specific folders. Just again: Why, and how, will creating a new Identity help in this regard? Kindest regards Harry "Ron Sommer" wrote in message ... Create a new Identity and import the mail from the old Identity. If you only have a few message rules, create them again. Thanks Ron.
I must admit, this is more of a hassle than I'd expected. Your answer also (almost directly) points to a possible problem within that file, i.e. folders.dbx. I went ahead and started with the New Identity, but immediately realised that I'd have to get up and fetch all my usernames, Id's etc from my filing system - and I almost immediately pressed "cancel" in the setup wizard for the new Identity. Although I suppose I'd HAVE to do it eventually, what could be the reason for the "system" just stopping to function? It's almost easier to re-install OE6, isn't it? Should that not fix the folders.dbx file if you are as impatient as I am at perfectly working stuff going wrong? I do have a lot of newsletters that I subscribe to and, again, I will do the rules thing again (although your pointers in another direction will be very welcome) but still, I am annoyed at all the hassles because of something just stopping to work. Any other way to sort it out, at all? Best regards Harry P.S. Sorry to be such a nag! "Ron Sommer" wrote: Folders.dbx keeps the read and unread count. Any other way to sort it out, at all? Reinstalling will not help, but if you delete Folders.dbx while OE is closed a new one will be created. You will, however have lost any folder hierarchy and list of newsgroups on the servers. -- Frank Saunders, MS-MVP OE/WM http://www.fjsmjs.com Please reply in newsgroup. Do NOT send email. |

. . . "You will, however have lost any folder hierarchy and list of newsgroups on the servers." Hi Frank! This sounds like the kind of solution I like - no actual work at al! Please know that I still appreciate your assistance, Ron. I learnt something new about Identities and may find use for that feature soon. But back to your answer, Frank: What in heaven does your last sentence mean? I can tell you that I am not on a server but a desktop machine and am not involved with any newsgroups. I only have the Inbox, with folders within it, e.g. Local Folders/Inbox/Folder1, Local Folders/Inbox/Folder2 etc Before I simply go ahead and delete the file as you explain, could you tell me what I should be aware of in my case as described above, please? Kindest possible regards Harry |
