Default Importing from a Laptop

What is the best way to import messages from my laptop to my desktop? I
can put all laptop messages into one folder if that will help.

The last (first) time I tried this, I lost ALL the other folders.

Thx

Dave

Default Importing from a Laptop

Bruce -
I'm not sure I see where those references address what I'm trying to do.

Lets say I have several messages on my laptop. I want to import them (that
is add them to what is already there) to my desktop, without loosing what's
already there obviously. Are you suggesting what I need to do is 'Backup'
the laptop messages, then 'Restore' them to the desktop?

I have been burned badly moving messages around in the past. I want to be
sure I'm clear on this move before I start.

Really appreciate the help

Dave

Default Importing from a Laptop

Copy each message to a new user created folder in OE. Copy the dbx file for
that folder to CD. Copy the CD to the Desktop on the other's hard drive and
remove the Read Only attribute.

To import that folder to OE:

Open OE and create a folder with the *exact* same name as the one on your
desktop. ***Copy a message from any folder to the new one. You MUST do
this.*** Close OE. Go to Windows Explorer and Click Desktop and drag the
file from the Desktop to the OE store folder for the identity in the new
machine that you would click to reveal the .dbx files. Prompt - "Do you want
to overwrite......."? Click Yes.

If it is truly only "several" messages, then easiest is use a floppy or a
USB memory stick and create a folder on it. Then select the messages you
want by highlighting them in the message while holding down the Ctrl key,
and drag/drop them to the folder on the floppy or memory stick. Then open
Outlook Express on the other machine to the folder you want the messages in,
make sure the Preview Pane is enabled, and drag/drop the messages from the
folder on the floppy or memory stick to Outlook Express in the Preview Pane.

I keep just such a folder on a 1GB USB stick so I can drag/drop email
messages I wish to keep on other machines. Don't know how we ever got along
before the USB memory sticks came into being.

BTW Bruce -

Looks like that 'Majik' backup routine is no longer available.

I'll keep going - thanks all for the suggestions - I'll report back soon -
successful I'm sure.
