Last week I started getting an error which is OE launch error could not
find registry info. I tried restoring XP to an earlier dates but had no luck. I looked in the OE program files folder and it shows 6.0.2900.2180 DLL files and the 50 exe file. It appears all the files are still there. I don't know what could have caused the problem. Is there any way to restore the files without using the win XP disk and doing a repair which will mean re installing SP2 and all the updates. system:Win XP SP 2 updated 1mb memory AMD Sempron 2800 80 gb hdd TIA |

@TK2MSFTNGP03.phx.gbl: And the entire error message is? OE launch error-could not find registry info That is the message It can't locate the program info to start OE would be a good guess. |

Woody, or Tango? Please include all previous messages in your posts.
"OE launch error-could not find registry info." That is it? I never saw an error message without more information. Nothing about: DIRECTDB.DLL or MSOE.DLL? -- Bruce Hagen MS MVP - Outlook Express ~IB-CA~ "tango" wrote in message ... I seriously doubt that is the "complete and exact" text of the error
message. When asked to post an error message, please be careful to post the complete and exact text that appears on the screen. Without that, we have to resort to guessing and often the guess is wrong. We're trying to help you and you are not being very nice to reply like that. You might begin by confirming that the executable for Outlook Express [msimn.exe] is in fact located in your "C:\Program Files\Outlook Express" folder and try double clicking it to see if the program starts without error. If so, that suggests you are using a shortcut on your Desktop or Taskbar that is corrupted. Another possibility is that you've run some type of "registry cleaner" which has corrupted your registry. In that case, often the only repair is a complete reinstall of the operating system. -- Jim Pickering MVP-Outlook Express/Windows Mail Please reply to newsgroup only so that others may be helped with your feedback. Nothing about: DIRECTDB.DLL or MSOE.DLL? That is the entire message. I don't think it generates any error message as it can't find the registry info to open the program. I am aware of how to decipher error messages but this problem isn't generating the standard error message like you get with an application normally. It's like the info in the registry was erased but the files seem to be ok in the XP program files. Hope this makes sense. |

From what you have posted, I have no idea. Please see Jim Pickering's reply.

I never thought to try another shortcut or go to program files to start OE, but when i did and entered my idenity it started. I feel a little embarrased but all is well and it was the message which threw me off. Even you guys who are far more knowlegeable than I never saw that one before evidently. Thanks for your help. |

That should read Programs and not program files. I don't use OE very often and intend to upgrade to IE7 when it is released but like to have it available. Thanks again for your help. |

Glad to hear it's now working as intended and thanks for the feedback. And
we often see error messages that are unique. There is no end to the amount of error messages that can crop up, which is why we always ask for the "complete and exact" text. Thanks. -- Jim Pickering MVP-Outlook Express/Windows Mail Please reply to newsgroup only so that others may be helped with your feedback. "woody" wrote in message ...
