Old computer had Win98 and Outlook Express. Bought new p/c with WinXP and
Outlook Express. Exported email addresses to a .wab file from old p/c. But when I try to import these email addresses to the new Outlook Express, I get an error message. I installed the old hard drive as a slave on the new p/c and can see everything but can't access it. So I don't have my mail or any addresses. Any ideas? |

The addresses and emails I want to move are on the slave drive on an older
version of OE. Even if I can manage to back them up, I don't know where to send them to restore, as the new OE looks different than the old. If I knew what folder(s) that OE holds addresses and email in I could just copy and paste them, but don't know the destination. You may have OE5 or 5.5 on the old machine, but the process is the same as
OE6. Everything you need should be covered in the link I provided. However, some additional help: Tools | Options | Maintenance | Store Folder will reveal the location of your Outlook Express files. Press the Tab key to highlight the folder location, then Ctrl+C. Close OE, then StartRunCtrl+V will put the location in the box - Click OK and you'll see the OE files. Otherwise, write the location down and navigate to it in Windows Explorer. In Windows XP, 2K & 3K, the OE user files (DBX and WAB) are by default marked as hidden. To view these files in Windows Explorer, you must enable Show Hidden Files and Folders under Start | Control Panel | Folder Options | View. Backing up and Cloning your OE Identities: http://www.insideoutlookexpress.com/backup/clone.htm If you are transferring to another PC, and have access to a Windows XP setup CD, or if both computers are running Windows XP, see: http://www.microsoft.com/windows/IE/...pten.mspx#EBAA -- Bruce Hagen MS MVP - Outlook Express ~IB-CA~ "Email blues" wrote in message ... From http://www.insideoe.com/backup/simple.htm
To restore your mail folders, open OE and click File| Import| Messages| OE5 (or OE6 if OE5 is not listed)| Message store directory, then browse to the folder containing your old messages. Do not copy the backup files into the current OE message store or the import will fail. If the files are not dbx files, but are idx and mbx files, then you choose OE4 and point to the folder above the store folder. In other words, the OE4 files will be in a Mail folder. Point to the folder containing the Mail folder. -- Ron Sommer "Email blues" wrote in message ... The addresses and emails I want to move are on the slave drive on an older version of OE. Ok, I've finally managed to import my messages, but still cannot import my
address book. I located it in the old OE, which is 6.0, but I keep getting an error message. Started a new thread in error. Sorry about that. In the old OE, *open* the Address Book and File | Export | Address Book
(wab) to any location on your hard drive. In the new OE, open that Address Book and File | Import | Address Book (wab) and point to where you saved it. -- Bruce Hagen MS MVP - Outlook Express ~IB-CA~ "Email blues" wrote in message ...
