I'm using Windows ME, not XP. I assume the references you gave me using
OLEXP pertain to Windows XP. I reviewed the material and it didn't fix my problem. I'm using OE version 6.00.2800.1123 and is there any way to confirm that it supports MIME? Do you happen to have any other suggestions that I can try? Thanks, Al "Michael Santovec" wrote in message ... Outlook Express does support MIME automatically. Nested messages (*.EML files) is a common problem when messages come from AOL, WebTV or Netscape. Some mail programs, such as AOL, always do a Forward as Attachment. Netscape does this by default, but the sender can do a "Forward Quoted" instead to avoid the problem. Often the attachment includes "Content-Disposition: inline". Some mail programs honor this. Unfortunately OE doesn't. With the exception of images (which is controlled by Tools, Options, Read in OE4 or a registry setting in OE5), OE will not display attachments Inline. Instead you have to open each attachment. If a message has been forward 10 times you need to go down 10 levels of opening attachments. If they are simple text messages (no images/attachments), a quick workaround is to look at the Message Source (Ctrl-F3). If after going down all the levels, pictures still aren't visible, the problem could be either on the sender's end or your end. - Red X instead of picture http://www.fjsmjs.com/IE/redx.htm - Images are blocked when you open an e-mail message in Outlook Express SP2 http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=843018 - If using XP SP2 and Tools, Options, Read, Read All Message In Plain Text is selected, then attached images are not automatically displayed at the bottom of the message. For a quick workaround for the current message, press ALT+Shift+H - OLEXP: Image May Not Appear in Message Sent with Outlook Express http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=171908 - OLEXP: Images in E-Mail Messages Are Missing After You Apply Stationery http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=256974 - OLEXP: Image May Not Appear in Message Received with Outlook Express http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=246186 - Some types of images don't display http://www.insideoe.com/problems/bugs.htm#nopreview - Hotbar can cause image problems http://www.thundercloud.net/help/hotbar-is-spyware.htm - There's a bug in a recent update to OE where if an HTML message uses the same image multiple time, only the first occurrence will display. This is a problem on the sender's end where OE generates bad HTML links. - Another possible cause of problems is a corrupted cache. Try clearing it. IE5+: Tools, Internet Options, General, Temporary Internet Files, Delete Files Temporary Internet Files Use More Disk Space Than Specified http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=301057 -- Mike - http://pages.prodigy.net/michael_santovec/techhelp.htm "Al" wrote in message ... I'm using Outlook Express with Windows ME, Mozilla Firefox, and have AT&T DSL service. I am using a Gateway computer that is about six years old. Whenever someone forwards me an attachment in an e-mail and it contains a picture in MIME format, I am never able to display the picture. Is there any way that I can read MIME formatted files with Outlook Express 6.0? I would appreciate it if anyone can provide any information that would help me solve this problem. Thanks, Al |
