hi,
I was trying to talk someone thru setting up an email account in Outlook Express. It's a brand new machine with XP home and has the latest OLE (6.00.2900.2180 xpsp_sp2.rtm) but when I tell them to go to Tools and select Accounts, they tell me that all they see there are "Address Book" and "Add Sender To Address Book" menu items available. The others are not there. I suspected it was "personalized menus" at work, but turning that off didn't make a difference. Any ideas? ~d d |

Any ideas? ~d d It sounds like they've already run Outlook Express before or it would start up to the new account Wizard. SO is this an additional account or a new account? I would suggest you rename the Identities subkey to Identities.org then restart OE. That would make it start like it was first being run and walk them thru the accounts wizard. START | Run type in regedit then press ENTER Click on the + sign next to HKEY_CURRENT_USER Click on Identities and then rename it. Close Regedit then restart OE. There is also a "No modify accts" settings for OE that would disable adding an extra account, usually used for administrators to prevent additional accounts from being added. HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Outlook Express In the right window pane, find the "No modify accts" value. Change it to a 0 to allow accoutns to be added. |

That's what you get if you open a received message in its own window and
select the Tools menu there. They need to select Tools from the main OE window. -- Mike - http://pages.prodigy.net/michael_santovec/techhelp.htm " d d" wrote in message ... hi, I was trying to talk someone thru setting up an email account in Outlook Express. Thanks DGuess, Ken and Michael S.
All three sound like great ways to tackle the situation, I think she must have run the wizard once, she might not have admin privilege, and might well have been opening tools from an email instead of main menu. I'll reply with which of those it was... THANKS GUYS !!! ~d d |
