Hello,
I did a download of many messages in OE6 (6.00.2900.2180.) and I received more than 1500 emails. My settings were not correct: I selected the SPA but my ISP didn't required this. So after the big download I got an error but I saw the 1500 email in the inbox between the brackets. After that error message I tried to redo the download but without success for the old emails and with success (after unchecking the SPA) for the new emails. Now it is a month I use OE and receive emails and I would like if there is a chance to recover the lost emails above mentioned. Thank you all. Ciao. Lorenzo Molinari ITALY |

I would be doubtful, but if they can be retrieved, this tool in the Extract
From Disk mode has the best chance. You will never know until you try. DBXpress: http://www.oehelp.com/DBXpress/Default.aspx To avoid something like this in the future, you can go to Tools | Accounts | Mail | Properties | Advanced. Check: Leave a copy of messages on the server, and check to Delete after X days, as short a period you are comfortable with. If this was checked, you could have redownloaded the messages when you had this problem. If you decide to try, wait until you are done and the visit Windows Updates. You are using a very outdated version of OE. Get all critical updates at the very least. General precautions for Outlook Express: Do not archive mail in default OE folders. They will eventually become corrupt. Create your own user defined folders for storing mail and move your mail to them. Empty Deleted Items folder regularly. Keep user created folders under 100MB, and Default folders as empty as is feasible. After you are done, follow up by compacting your folders manually while working *offline* and do it often. Click on Outlook Express at the top of the folder tree so no folders are open. Then: File | Work Offline (or double click Working Online in the Status Bar). File | Folder | Compact all folders. Don't touch anything until the compacting is completed. In Tools | Options | Maintenance: Uncheck Compact messages in background and leave it unchecked. {N/A if running XP/SP2}. Turn off e-mail scanning in your anti-virus program. It is a redundant layer of protection that eats up CPUs and causes a multitude of problems such as time-outs and account setting changes. Your up-to-date A/V program will continue to protect you sufficiently. If you are running XP/SP2, make sure you have the patch at this site. With it, a copy of your dbx files will be sent to the Recycle Bin. Should you lose messages while compacting for whatever reason, you will be able to restore them from this backup. Patch KB918651: http://tinyurl.com/mx3r2 Clear the Temporary Internet Files often. In IE | Tools | Internet Options | Delete Files button. And check the box to Delete Offline content. And backup often.
