Need help badly and urgent.
Due to hard disk failure I had the HD replaced and reloaded XP Home , XP Office and some backups. But I am unable to configure OE to have my Inbox. There is no Inbox at present, thereby I cannot download any incoming messages. I've got these Newsgroups with no problems and my previously saved OE Folders. For all I've tried it says "This service does not work with Outlook Express" and It keeps on asking for a pasword that I did not fill in. Someone please walk me in from the beginning, step by step. Thanks. |

No Inbox means that you have the OE Newsreader and not OE.
Start, Run, msimn Tools, Accounts, Mail tab, New, ......... Create a shortcut that points to msimn.exe. -- Ron Sommer "Ben Stevenson" wrote in message ... Need help badly and urgent. Thanks for your prompt response.
My answers as below: "Ron Sommer" wrote in message ... No Inbox means that you have the OE Newsreader and not OE. Start, Run, msimn After doing this and hit the OK button I see nothing came up. Tools, Accounts, Mail tab, New, ......... Did that. To set up a Hotmail account. But I am not sure what to fill in. At the Internet connection wizard it asks "My Incoming Mail Server is HTTP/POP3?IMAP server. Which one should I select? At the next line below "Incoming mail (POP3, IMAP,HTTP) Hotmail/MSN/Other I believe I should select Hotmail here. Create a shortcut that points to msimn.exe. Where do I go to do that and how? Ben, the following from Hotmail Help....
Access your e-mail account from Microsoft Outlook Express To protect our users from the increasing amount of unsolicited junk e-mail and spam sent from MSN Hotmail accounts through Outlook and Outlook Express, we have reluctantly had to restrict the new use of Outlook and Outlook Express to subscribers. You can view your Hotmail messages in Outlook Express 6. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 1.. In Outlook Express, click the Tools menu, and then click Accounts. 2.. Click Add, and then click Mail. 3.. Type your full name, and then click Next. 4.. Type your full Hotmail e-mail address ), and then click Next. 5.. In the My incoming mail server is a box, click HTTP. 6.. In the My HTTP service provider is box, click Hotmail, and then click Next. 7.. Type the password for your Hotmail account, and then click Next. To help protect your privacy, don't select the Remember password check box unless you are the only person with access to the program. 8.. Click Finish. Ken:
Please stop using that scripting example to post. You can take the text from any article and paste it into Notepad, then from there into your message. Scripting is disabled on many computers these days and all your reply does is throw up "scripting errors." HTML is really not needed for posting that information. Thanks. -- Jim Pickering MVP-Outlook Express/Windows Mail Please reply to newsgroup only so that others may be helped with your feedback. "Ken" wrote in message ... Hi Ken
Thanks so much for your help. That was exactly what I was looking for. I've got my Inbox now and got all my messages. There are just two minor problems though: 1. Frequently I get "An unknown error has occurred". Everything stops. I would have to restart and try again. 2. The password window keeps on appearing again and again even when I fill it up and hit OK. In my original configurations as per your instructions I had checked "Remember my password" as I am the only user. But it doesn't seem to remember the password. Anyway I can get rid of this password thing? TIA "Ken" wrote in message ... Ben, the following from Hotmail Help.... Hi Jim
I am interested in knowing why scripting is bad. If it is, I need to ensure that it is disabled on my computer. Thanks "Jim Pickering" wrote in message ... Hi Ben,
Glad I was able to help. I do not use Outlook Express for my Hotmail, thus have not experienced your additional query. I use MSN Premium and when I noticed your post it was a simple couple clicks to copy and paste the instructions from Hotmail help. I am sure someone will notice your query and provide some suggestions. Good luck and thanks for your reply. Ken "Ben Stevenson" wrote in message ... Hi Ken Thanks so much for your help. I think Jim is referring to the script language in Ken's reply:
SCRIPT language=javascript if (!ccTest('DH_FREE')) document.write("stylespan.cc603622 {display:inline!important}/style"); else document.write("stylespan.cc603622 {display:none!important}/style"); /SCRIPT The script language is not needed in a newsgroup message. -- Ron Sommer "Ben Stevenson" wrote in message ... It has nothing to do with the location of the message. The language
attribute is set to show which language the parser should use. Javascript is the default. See http://msdn.microsoft.com/workshop/a...s/language.asp I think Jim was just complaining about the script being their to begin with. steve "Ron Sommer" wrote in message ...
