Default Synchronize settings/account

This is something I don't understand and I hope someone can explain to me.
What does it mean to synchronize the settings/account? And what happens if I
don't synchronize?
Thanks

It means that according to how you have the newsgroups set, New Messages,
All Messages or Headers Only, when you sync the news account, it will
perform one of those tasks.

New Messages - only get the currently available messages since you last were
in the newsgroup.
All Messages - pretty well self explanatory.
Headers Only - just get the available headers only, no message bodies.

You don't have to do it, I do on some machines and not on others. It's just
a way of automating a task.

Default Synchronize settings/account

You'll find some information on this in Help, Contents and Index, Index,
Synch...

It applies to IMAP, HTTP (Hotmail/MSN) and NNTP (news servers), but not
POP3 mail accounts.

In the types of accounts that it applies to, OE basically mirrors the
messages that are on the corresponding server.

For these types of accounts, you can't read a message without the
synchronizing happening. But just clicking on a folder invokes
automatic synchronizing. The settings give you some control over how
much synchronizing occurs.
