Default changing font in outgoing e-mail using OE6

I frequently have to copy and paste text into e-mails that I'm writing using
Outlook Express 6. When I do the font gets messed up so I select the whole
paragraph and try to apply a certain font. However, it doesn't change! What
am I doing wrong that I can't select text and apply font sytyle and size?

Try changing the Format of the pasted text back and forth between Rich &
Plain text on the format menu of the new message?

To avoid the problem, you might want to get this program

PureText
http://www.stevemiller.net/puretext/

It can be set up so that with an alternate key combination, you can
paste text without any formatting. I find it very handy.
