Default Delays at Inbox

When I first open Inbox, there is the hour glass next to the pointer.
Messages are downloaded but I cannot open or delete them. I have to wait for
about two to three minutes for the hour glass to go away and then I can
proceed as usual. What can I do about this hour glass problem?
TIA

Your inbox is probably overfull and possibly corrupt. and / or your entire
message store is corrupt.

Go to File | Identities and set up a new Identity. That will give you a new
Identity. Then go to File | Import | Messages and import from the older
Identity. Then select all the inbox messages that were imported and move
them to another folder (create one first). Then go to File | Folder |
Compact in the inbox to compact it and shrink it down to nothing.

That should take care of the problem.

See also www.oehelp.com/OETips.aspx points 2, 3 and 7.

I'd suggest you backup your messages too, before they get lost, which
happens a lot.

Thanks for your prompt response.

On your last point, how do I backup the messages first? I am not that good
on computers. Just a little better than a newbie.
Thanks

See point 6 on that page I referenced earlier: www.oehelp.com/OETips.aspx#6

You can get OETool and OEQB (both free) and then backup with a single button
click. See www.oehelp.com/OETool/

Sorry for the delay. Sometimes my work takes me offshore for a bit.
I went to the links you gave me for backup. There is so much ground to cover
there, so many links to go to. I've been on it for two hours and ended up
not being able to make out.

Would appreciate if you could give me the simple steps how to go about it,
on which link exactly to click to download, and the steps on how to progress
from there. Also how would I restore later if I have to.
Thanks

The simple answer is that with the version of OE you have, every time OE
compacts the mail folders it first saves a copy of the DBX files to the
Recycled Bin, changing the extension from DBX to BAK. If you have not
emptied the Recycle Bin since the last time you compacted folders they
should be there. If they aren't there click File | Work Offline and then
File | Folder | Compact All and wait for it to finish before touching the
computer.

Hi Steve

I am still awaiting for your advise. If it is too difficult to save the
website way, can I save on CD?
Thanks

You can save the messages by copying the dbx files. You can copy them to CD
if you want.

If you want to backup the registry settings, then you'll have to read the
information on the websites.
