Just to let everyone know that, on a brand new Win XP installation
shipped with free McAfee with McAfee SpamKiller installed in Outlook Express 6, on launching a new-message-compose window in OE6, the window flashes momentarily then moves to the background, requiring you to click on the taskbar button to bring it to the foreground. Uninstalling SpamKiller fixed the problem. But WARNING!!!! McAfee's goddamned Uninstall Wizard dys-intuitively asks you to check the boxes of the components you want to KEEP installed, not uninstall. So natch, I SpamKiller, and the piece of crap then uninstalled everything BUT SpamKiller. *** |

I just find that though it works well, it has a few oddities that get to me so I don't use it. |

I would not have anything by McAfee or Norton on my computer. Both cause
nothing but trouble with Outlook Express. -- Bruce Hagen MS MVP - Outlook Express ~IB-CA~ wrote in message ps.com... Its nice to see they are continuing their 8 year tradition of screwing up

![]() No probs here with Macafee. Never had a problem with many computers with Outlook or OE excepting Spamkiller. If that wasn't an issue, nothing interfered from them. They have been screwing OE up since 1997. I even got email from them back
then, and I told them I was telling people to turn off email scanning or they'd lose there messages. They agreed. People still are losing their messages everyday. You do a disservice to others just because you have been lucky so far. steve MS-MVP Windows OE / WinMail "Diamontina Cocktail" wrote in message ... Sorry but they don't screw OE up. ![]() "Steve Cochran" wrote in message ... They have been screwing OE up since 1997. No, that is most definitely wrong. I have been using it longer than that and so have many of my users and never a problem unless it was Spamkiller. Spamkiller is good in what it does but unfortunately too complex for most people and in its "out of the box" mode (eg, unaltered) really isn't set up well enough to be worth the effort of installing. Mcafee seem blissfully unaware of this. So, many people who don't want to change things or possibly don't know what they are doing call it crap. The fact is that it is unusually good but ONLY EVER if you change the thing around, adding your own rules as needed etc. I haven't used Spamkiller for over a year now simply because I have my own domain name and have spam filtering there. I cant see any reason for Spamkiller or any other third party anti spam on my computer, since. |

Actually, if the original poster of that comment just stopped to read the uninstaller, it would have been obvious what it meant. |
