Try uninstalling Defender and then go to Start | Run and type msconfig and
disable any startup items. Then reboot and go to Control Panel | Add /
Remove programs | Set Program Access and defaults and set it to OE. See if
that fixes it.

Yes, I have created a new identity. That doesn't work either.
Only reason I haven't done the R&R is I was afraid I would screw it up.
SP2 did not come with the disc (computer 3 yrs. old), so I will read what
you sent and go on and dive into it.

In your OP, you said if you inserted a graphic in a new message and sent

1: Did you get rid of Windows Defender?

That makes no sense at all. Get rid of IE7 and OE6 and go back to
IE7???

IE6 is a part of your OS and OE6 is a part of IE6. You cannot get rid
of
them. You can get rid of IE7, which is still in the testing mode, and
use
IE6. I would do that first. Remember, IE7 has no affiliation with OE6,
so
even if you could remove IE6 and OE6, you would not have any operating
version of Outlook Express.

Perhaps, without knowing more, you may want to check this out, AFTER
you
remove IE7 Beta.
