Hello - I purchased a new computer and backed up my email messages from my
old computer to a cd-rom\writer disk. Unfortunately the .dbx files come over as read only. I saw an KB article # 252603 that says to backup to a floppy or hard drive. Is there any other way to get these .dbx files onto a cd-rom\writer disc without it being read-only? Unfortunately my new computer does not have a floppy drive. I thought that would be like asking for an 8-track in my new car. |

Copy the dbx files to the CD and then copy the CD to a location on the new
machine's HDD. Now, remove the Read Only attribute and use OE's Import feature. Make sure you include Folders.dbx or the import will fail. I'd rather have the 8 track. G
Just copy the files off the CD to a blank directory on the hard drive and then select all of them and right click and go to Properties and clear the read only attribute. Then go to File | Import | Messages and point to that directory. And put in an 8 track of Santana while you wait. steve "Bo" wrote in message ... I am also trying to import messages. I left my job today and saved all
the .dbx files I wanted. However, I did not know I needed to save the "folders.dbx" file. Now, I cannot access that computer anymore. Is there a way to generate a new folders.dbx file? No. You will have to import them manually. Do the following for each
folder/file. If need be, you can rename them in advance if they have the same names as folders on your computer right now. Copy the dbx file from the CD to your Desktop. Right click on it and remove the Read only attribute. Open OE and create a folder with the *exact* same name as the one on your desktop. Open the new folder and then close OE. Go to Windows Explorer and Click Desktop and drag the file from the Desktop to the OE store folder, (do not open it), that contains the .dbx files. Prompt - "Do you want to overwrite......."? Click Yes. -- Bruce Hagen MS MVP - Outlook Express ~IB-CA~ wrote in message ups.com... I am also trying to import messages. I left my job today and saved all the .dbx files I wanted.
