Yesterday I was downloading daag.exe and some other documentation from the
msdn paterns and practices site. I was asked to do a survey and agreed. The survey window said it would activate when I was done browsing the "patterns and practices" section. when I cloed the site, IE displayed a message that it had encountered and error and had to close. I did not send an error report, but guesss I should have. ![]() Anyway, the next time I used Outlook Express and tried to click a link in an email, nothing happened. I tried another email link that had worked sometime before, but nothing happened with that either. So I began looking for answers with google. I found a lot of answers. One I saw in several places said to check file associations and make sure "URL:Hypertext Transfer" was set to "%windir% iexplore.exe", and to make sure you do not use the "URL: Internet Shortcut" item. But I do not have any file association labled "URL:Hypertext Transfer". I tried to create a new entry named "URL:Hypertext Transfer", but a dialog box pops up saying this action would delete/replace the other URL entry ("URL: Internet Shortcut"). I did not want to do that. I know this stuff is in the registry, can I eneter it in there, and where would I look for directions? I don't want to reintall IE again, that makes me have to reinstall service packs and patches all over agian, too. TIA |

You have to have URL:HyperText Transfer Protocol. See the attached screen
shot. From: http://www.fjsmjs.com/OE/nolinks.htm If nothing happens when you click a link: Open Windows Explorer. Go to Tools | Folder Options | File Types. Scroll down to URL:HyperText Transfer Protocol (NOT URL:Internet Shortcut) and select it. Click Edit or Advanced, depending on your Windows version. Select 'open'. Click Edit. "Application used to perform this action" should read: "C:\PROGRAM FILES\INTERNET EXPLORER\iexplore.exe" -nohome (Check the path to iexplore.exe to make sure that is correct and use the double quotes.) DDE should be checked and in the boxes below it you should have: #1: "%1",,-1,0,,,, #2 IExplore #3 (blank) #4 WWW_OpenURL URL:HyperText Transfer Protocol with Privacy should be the same. Thank you Bruce, but the problem is that there IS NO entry for "URL:Hypertext

OK Bruce, thanks anyway. I am still looking in other places, too. I know I
should be able to add it using regedit, but have no idea how. "Bruce Hagen" wrote: I have no idea what has happened, Patrick. I have never seen it disappear. Thanks, but W2k does not have sytem resore AFAIK. Besides, I did a repair of
system files both with SFC and the installation cd on bootup a few days ago for more serious IE6 problems, and that screwed up 1. Outlook Express 2. SQL Server 2000 3 Service packs and patches that had been installed already So I do not want to do that again. It is beginning to look like maybe it's time to reinstall W2k. YUK! It's only been a year since I installed on this drive... "Ken" wrote: Perhaps ... System Restore. ![]() Ok, I think it's fixed. The reason I could not find URL:Hypertext Transfer Protocol is because it was listed under extenion: "N/A" and I was not sorting the list by file types. I looked in my MSDN April 2001 library and in there sorting by file type instead of extension was mentioned. I still don't know if the extension should be listed under "N/A" type, though. Can someone look in their machine, please? It seems to be working now, anyway. THANKS! |
