Have tried getting a response from the Earthlink email group but no luck.
I am getting duplicate e-mails on my laptop and I don't know why. I use Outlook Express and when I check my e-mails from my laptop they are duplicate, but not duplicates when I access them from my regular desktop. If I send an e-mail to myself on my laptop, it's okay (NO duplicate). I don't have too much computer savvy; however, could someone please help me. Thanks. -- Bombs away!! |

Hi Canuck,
For a POP3 account duplicate messages can occur if the Pop3uidl.dbx file is damaged. Also check to see if messages are being left on the server. The setting for this in Tools, Accounts, Mail Account Properties Advanced tab. Limit the amount of time messages remain on the server to a week (give or take a few days) to avoid filling the mailbox. 1. Click Exit on the File menu to quit Outlook Express. 2. Click Start, point to Search, and then click For Files or Folders. Include hidden files and folders. 3. In the Search for files or folders named box, type Pop3uidl.dbx, and then click Search Now. 4. Under Search Results, right-click the Pop3uidl.dbx file, and then click Rename. 5. Type Pop3uidl.old, and then press ENTER. 6. To start Outlook Express, click Start, point to Programs, and then click Outlook Express. Instead of using search the store folder can be opened directly. Each identity has its own store folder. a.. In Outlook Express click on Tools, Options, Maintenance tab...Store Folder. b.. Place the cursor at the left of the text of the path to the folder. c.. Drag the cursor to the right until the text scrolls to the end. d.. Right-click on the text and choose Copy. e.. In the Start, Run box right-click Paste. Click OK to open the store folder. f.. Close Outlook Express before working with the message store files. Using Keyboard Shortcuts for Transfer of the Folder Path Courtesy of: Jim Pickering, MVP-Outlook Express An even easier method when opening that page is to use the Tab to highlight the folder location, then Ctrl+C and close OE, then use Start/Run and Ctrl+V. Same caveat about hidden files applies but can be easily modified in Explorer by using Tools/Folder Options. -- Tim K. aka Kuay Tim MS-MVP - Outlook Express Lynnwood, WA * "canuck" wrote in message ... 1. Disable email scanning by your anti-virus application. It provides no
additional protection, it may be causing the problem, and even Symantec says it's not necessary: paste Disabling Email Scanning does not leave you unprotected against viruses that are distributed as email attachments. Norton AntiVirus Auto-Protect scans incoming files as they are saved to your hard drive, including email and email attachments. Email Scanning is just another layer on top of this. To make sure that Auto-Protect is providing the maximum protection, keep Auto-Protect enabled and run LiveUpdate regularly to ensure that you have the most recent virus definitions. /paste http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT...02111812533106 2. Tools Options Maintenance Store folder will reveal the location of your current Identity's store (http://www.insideoe.com/files/store.htm#storemain). Write it down. In WinXP, Win2K and Win2K03, the OE user files (DBX and WAB) are by default marked as hidden. To view these files in Explorer, you must enable Show Hidden Files and Folders under Start Control Panel Folder Options View. Close Outlook Express In Windows Explorer, navigate to your store, find & delete POP3UIDL.DBX. -- ~Robear Dyer (PA Bear) MS MVP-Windows (IE/OE, Shell/User, Security), Aumha.org VSOP, DTS-L.org canuck wrote: Have tried getting a response from the Earthlink email group but no luck. I think I found the problem. Have no idea what finally did it but it was
definitely in the way I had the settings. I clicked here and there -- checked and unchecked until it finally is sending e-mails appropriately. Thanks to those who took the time to respond -- it's certainly appreciated. -- Bombs away!! Canuck "PA Bear" wrote: 1. Disable email scanning by your anti-virus application. You have a lap top and desk top PC and are getting duplicate e-mails on
the lap top but not the desk top? It's best to start a new post and describe YOUR problem in detail and any error messages that you get. Quite often when people post that they have the SAME problem, it's not the same problem. Some important details are different and that affects the solution. -- Mike - http://pages.prodigy.net/michael_santovec/techhelp.htm "Jose" wrote in message news ![]() do you have anyother tolls to try I do have the same issue and . can't get that out "PA Bear" wrote: YW. canuck wrote: I think I found the problem.
