Default Compacting Folders

I am the Administrator/Secretary of this company and I'm handling all the
important
company emails through Outlook Express.

I do not know the latest version of OE automatically compacts folders on the
100th closing and opening of the program.

I cancelled the process thinking it was accidental and would make the
messages go to some unknown location, or worse...deleted.

It is then that all the email messages for the year 2006 were gone. (I
still have the email messages from 2000-2005

How can I recover my messages from this horrible tragic incident?

OE will ask to compact.
If they are important, how old is your backup?
Where the 2000-2006 messages in the Inbox?

If in fact these messages were left in the INBOX the problem will reoccur
again someday.
Highly suggest you move or copy them to a different folder that you create.

I think your only recourse would be DBXpress with its extract from disk
feature. It will analyze the entire hard drive for OE messages, and it may
be able to recover the lost ones. See www.oehelp.com/DBXpress/

For the future see points 2 and 3 he www.oehelp.com/OETips.aspx There
is now a patch that addresses the compaction issue. Also see point 4 there
for message recovery techniques.

The OE message store is extremely fragile and subject to corruption. You
should make regular backups.
