I didn't notice this problem until I tried to send mail and it just
stayed in the outbox. After a lot of $*&#$$** and rebooting, I opened
my SEND/RECEIVE window and saw that OE was hung in the receiving mail
process. -- this does not stop any other mail reading, composing, etc
just the actual receiving and sending of mail past the point where it
sticks.

It NEVER hangs when going to my ISP accounts - I have 7 there.
It ALWAYS hangs on one of my HOTMAIL accounts - I have 4.
It NEVER hangs on my YAHOO account. (using YPOPS)

If I stop it, close it, and restart it, it goes thru all the accounts
fine. "it" being the SEND/RECEIVE process.

It appears to occur very predictably the first time it checks mail
after I open OE. It may also do it when it checks periodically but I
haven't verified that.
It doesn't seem to matter if there is mail or not.
It doesn't necessarily pick the first HOTMAIL account it gets to to
hang on.
It ALWAYS executes all the ISP accounts it encounters before the
HOTMAIL account it hangs on.
There are other ISP accounts, HOTMAIL accounts, and a YAHOO account
after the one it hangs on.

cable modem, router, no firewall, NOD32 antivirus.
OE version 6.00.2900.2180

I'm sure some of the previous posts RE hangs are the same thing but I
didn't see any solution.
