specifically to one cause of doubling.
Is there some prog or something that can undo the doubling of posts when the
cause is a matter of the posts having been downloaded twice for some other
reason?

Posts or e-mails? You started a new thread not including much information.

If you want to remove duplicate e-mail messages, you can either do it
manually, or get this tool:
