If you didn't include Folders.dbx in your backup, an import will fail.
Open OE and create a folder with the *exact* same name as the one on your desktop. Open the new folder and then close OE. Go to Windows Explorer and locate the Message Store folder for your OE identity, but don't open it. Click Desktop and drag the file from the Desktop to the OE store folder. Prompt - "Do you want to overwrite......."? Click Yes. -- Bruce Hagen MS-MVP Outlook Express ~IB-CA~ "Lane Browning" wrote in message ... this sounds good but the problem is the folder on my desktop is named "Old
Hard Drive" and IS the entire hard drive; only ONE of the folders in it is the mail folder. Should I select all those files and save them as something else first, on the desktop? If that folder contains your complete Message Store, than you should be able
to import them by pointing to it. Backup & Resto http://www.insideoutlookexpress.com/backup/ If you just want to retrieve one OE folder, then in the saved folder, expand the thread in Documents and Settings to get to the old message store. Open it and find the dbx file for the folder you want and send that dbx file to the Desktop and then follow the previous instructions. -- Bruce Hagen MS-MVP Outlook Express ~IB-CA~ "Lane Browning" wrote in message ... this sounds good but the problem is the folder on my desktop is named "Old Hard Drive" and IS the entire hard drive; only ONE of the folders in it is the mail folder. If the saved folder contains the old store directory, then you should be
able to File | Import | Messages. Choose Microsoft Internet Explorer 6 and then the radio button to Import from a store directory and point to the one in the saved folder. Or open the folder and move the old message store to the Desktop by itself and point to that. Otherwise, you will have to do it manually as I pointed out before. -- Bruce Hagen MS-MVP Outlook Express ~IB-CA~ "pumpkin" wrote in message ... import? the import menu allows only import from another PROGRAM, not from a folder? This is how you would find the message store for your current identity.
Write down the path and follow it in the folder you saved on your Desktop. It will be the same with the exception on the identity's code. This was definitely not the way to backup OE. Tools | Options | Maintenance | Store Folder will reveal the location of your Outlook Express files. Press the Tab key to highlight the folder location, then Ctrl+C. Close OE, then Start | Run | Ctrl+V will put the location in the box - Click OK and you'll see the OE files. Otherwise, write the location down and navigate to it in Windows Explorer. In WinXP, Win2K & Win2K03, the OE user files (DBX and WAB) are by default marked as hidden. To view these files in Windows Explorer, you must enable Show Hidden Files and Folders under Start | Control Panel | Folder Options | View. When I say Click Desktop, I am referring to clicking on it in Windows Explorer. -- Bruce Hagen MS-MVP Outlook Express ~IB-CA~ "pumpkin" wrote in message ... "Bruce Hagen" wrote in message ... If you opened OE: Tools | Options | Maintenance | Store Folder shows the
location, (path), in Windows Explorer to the dbx files that contain your messages. However, since you have never heard of a Message Store, nor Windows Explorer and where it is located, I think you're just going to have to wait until Tuesday. I wish I could have been of more help, but I don't think I could have done any more unless the laptop was right in front of me. Sorry. -- Bruce Hagen MS-MVP Outlook Express ~IB-CA~ "pumpkin" wrote in message ... "Bruce Hagen" wrote in message ... This is how you would find the message store for your current identity.
