Default cannot insert pictures in OE6

has anyone ever figured out a fix for OE6 freezing when trying to insert
picture into the message body? i have been reading all the posts but they
are kind of old.

i have a new Dell xps400. i click on insert pic either on the icon or in
the upper menu. takes me to browser window and is grayed out. at this point
it freezes, and i cannot cancel or close on the X. have to ctrl, alt, delete
to get out of it.

i have tried all the suggestions in many of the posts including making sure
my HTML is checked, Send Pic with Messages is checked. i created a new
identity.

i did have slight progress on one suggestion of disabling Startup items. i
did this and clicked apply, then exit without restart. i could then insert
pictures with no problem. however, when restarting or rebooting, it goes
back to the way it was, the problem persists. so i believe it is in the
Startup section, a conflict somewhere.
i am stuck. don't know what to do at this point.

seems to be a common problem. hopefully someone out there has the solution.

thanks.

Go to Start | Run and type
msconfig
and press Enter.
On the startup tab uncheck everything.
Restart the computer.
If things are fine now, go back and recheck some of the things you want
most, then restart again. If the problem comes back it was one of those,
if it doesn't come back it was one of the others. You can keep trying until
you figure out which one it was. Once you have identified the problem
program you can either uninstall it or go into its options and tell it not
to start when the computer starts.

thanks, frank, i will give it a try. i did something similar one night but i
didn't restart after each time. i restarted some times. i will have to
write it all down and be more organized with it. will let you know how it
turns out. will probably be a couple days from now.

Turn off email scaqnning in the anti-virus. It provides absolutely no
protection over just having it run in the background.

if i turn off virus scanning in email, won't i be susceptible to viruses in
my emails i receive? or does the virus program still detect viruses with
email scanning disabled?

You will still be protected.

This is from Symantec, but applies to all anti-virus programs.

From:
http://snipurl.com/bmf6

Is my computer still protected against viruses if I disable Email Scanning?

Disabling Email Scanning does not leave you unprotected against viruses that
are distributed as email attachments. Norton AntiVirus Auto-Protect scans
incoming files as they are saved to your hard drive, including email and
email attachments. Email Scanning is just another layer on top of this. To
make sure that Auto-Protect is providing the maximum protection, keep
Auto-Protect enabled and run LiveUpdate regularly to ensure that you have
the most recent virus definitions.
