Default ÿþ when responding to gmail and others

OE 6.0, Windows XP Home
When I reply to gmail the recipient gets ÿþ. I have seen this in
discussion groups. I have "reply to email in the format they were sent"
checked. I use "Western European ISO" in international settings. Since I
often send email to a list of 175 I don't want to use plain text. Is this an
OE problem or a gmail problem or something else? Thanks.

Haven't seen that error in quite awhile, but the fix is below:

The ÿþ comes about when OE5/6 users send in HTML format and the HTML
character set is Unicode (UTF-7) or similar. OE4 and OE5/6 recipients can
at least read the message, many other recipients, such as Netscape won't
be able to. Eudora may see double characters.

You should use "Western European (ISO)" for Encoding. Places to check
this in OE:
- Tools, Options, Send, International
- Tools, Options, Read, Font
- Tools, Options, Read, International
- When composing a message, look in Format, Encoding

It's also reported that it only happens when you are replying and do not
include the original text in the reply. Set OE to include the original
message (Tools/Options/Send). You can delete it from the reply by
highlighting and clicking Del key. You can also delete it by editing
the source (see the tabs at the bottom). And it appears that that is the
most likely cause of the error in your case.
