I receive email from a friend who is using MSN.com for an ISP occassionally.
Usually it has an attachment and I have yet to figure out how to open this attachment. I receive a lot of messages w/attachments from others and have no problem opening them. I contacted my friend about the emails he sends and my inability to open them and was told I was the only one complaining about them. I received one yesterday with the ".email" extension and, once again, could not open it. It immediately attempted to open in Notepad with out asking me. When I tried several other programs to open it, I was unsuccessful as well. This is an example of what I see: Content-Disposition: attachment; filename="z_ppt_Pamukkale_mhr.pps" 0M8R4KGxGuEAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAPgADAP7/CQAGAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAaAAAArwwAAAAAAAAA EAAA/v///wAAAAD+////AAAAAJUMAACWDAAAlwwAAJgMAACZDAAAmgwAAJsMAACcDAAAnQ wAAJ4M AACfDAAAoAwAAKEMAACiDAAAowwAAKQMAAClDAAApgwAAKcMAA CoDAAAqQwAAKoMAACrDAAArAwA AK0MAACuDAAA//////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////// ///// What am I doing wrong? Thanks, Bruce
I do have Power Point 2003 on my system, but it does not recognize the file apparently. I tried changing the extension from ".email" to ".pps" wth the same results. It may be might eneptness. Do I need to download and install the Power Point viewer anyway? I did receive a file once before, a couple of years ago, that I managed to open, but this one is not cooperating. It is not really that important, just kind of like a bur under my blanket. Are you running XP/SP2? Did you see this?
There is a conflict with PPS and XP/SP2. See this link for a fix: http://windowsxp.mvps.org/ppsopen.htm If you changed it from email to PPS, that won't work. This should have helped. I'll give it a shot. If you have the original, that would be the best.

Van I think we've missed the point. Save the message and change the extension to ..eml and clicking on it should open it in OE. It should then look like any other email with a .pps attachment. Alternatively you can right click it with the original .email extension and when the open with / choose program box pops up choose MSIMN.EXE and check the "Always open with" box.... in future OE will then open them normally. You can search for MSIMN.EXE to find out where it lives. Charlie |

Charlie,
Thanks for your post. I tried changing the file extension and also tried to use MSIMN.exe. I actually view this as a learning experience, althought I never mananged to open it. I also could not attach it in any form or fashion and send it to Bruce, although I tried for several hours. I am saddled with dial-up(28.8) and have to use server mail for files over about 900 kb. This one is nearly 3 MB and it would not attach and go. Final solution was to delete it and forget it. I truly think that it is a corrupt file. Well I have no trouble with the occasional .email messages that I get and
someone else I think posted the alternative instructions for making the association with OE so maybe it was a bad file. By the way the odd name of the OE executable comes from MicroSoft Internet Mail and News "Van R" wrote in message ... Charlie, Thanks for your post. You have 2 issues going on.
A .email (or .ema) or .ezm file is an alternate file extension for an ..EML file. One option is to save the attachment, then rename with an ..EML file name. Or you can create a file association for .email, .ema or .ezm files. You can get to File Associations via: - My Computer - View (Win95/98/NT4/Me) or Tools (Win2000 or WinXP) menu - Folder Options (or Options) - File Types - New Type - New - Action: OPEN The application used needs to be: "C:\PROGRAM FILES\OUTLOOK EXPRESS\MSIMN.EXE" /eml:%1 Content Type (MIME) should be: message/rfc822 The .email is actually a forwarded message. Once you fix that issue you'll be able to the .email attachment. When you do that you'll have a message with a PPS attachment from your example. See Bruce's message for how to fix the issue with the PPS attachment. -- Mike - http://pages.prodigy.net/michael_santovec/techhelp.htm "Van R" wrote in message ...
