Do not archive mail in default OE folders. They will eventually become
corrupt. Create your own user defined folders for storing mail and move your mail to them. Empty Deleted Items folder regularly. Keep user created folders under 100MB, and Default folders as empty as is feasible. After you are done, follow up by compacting your folders manually while working *offline* and do it often. Click on Outlook Express at the top of the folder tree so no folders are open. Then: File | Work Offline (or double click Working Online in the Status Bar). File | Folder | Compact all folders. Don't touch anything until the compacting is completed. Turn off e-mail scanning in your anti-virus program. It is a redundant layer of protection that eats up CPUs and causes a multitude of problems such as time-outs and account setting changes. Your up-to-date A/V program will continue to protect you sufficiently. For more, see: http://www.oehelp.com/OETips.aspx#3 In Tools | Options | Maintenance: Uncheck Compact messages in background and leave it unchecked. {N/A if running XP/SP2}. And backup often. ![]() http://www.oehelp.com/OETips.aspx#3 http://www.oehelp.com/DBXtract/Default.aspx Not sure if this can be answered here... I've been playing DBXtract and one folder that has gone corrupt. DBXtract extracts emails from DBX into a individual *.eml files. How do I import those back into a DBX folder? Not have much luck with that using the OE import options. thanks! |

The eml files are stored in a folder. Open that folder and resize it to
occupy about 1/2 the screen. Open Outlook Express and resize it to occupy the other 1/2 of the screen. Select the messages you desire to copy by highlighting them (using either the Ctrl key while selecting or if all, use Ctrl+A) and then hold down the right hand mouse button and drag/drop them into the message list header of the folder you desire to use to retain them in Outlook Express. I'd suggest you not store them in the Inbox, but use a User created Local Folder you make. -- Jim Pickering, MVP, Outlook Express https://mvp.support.microsoft.com/pr...8-1171988A62D6 Please deliver feedback to the newsgroup, so that others can be helped. Pretty cool..! Sort of ... I dragged and dropped into my folder, but the
columns did not come through correctly. The FROM, SUBJECT and RECEIVED appear to be just one long text row. thanks! "Jim Pickering" wrote in message ... The eml files are stored in a folder. Glad to hear it worked. When you resize the OE windows, you should be able
to resize the columns in the Message Header List the way you desire. Just right click on the Message List bar and select Columns and Add/Remove, resize as desired. -- Jim Pickering, MVP, Outlook Express https://mvp.support.microsoft.com/pr...8-1171988A62D6 Please deliver feedback to the newsgroup, so that others can be helped. Almost 1GB. I know you and all the other MVP's heart just skipped a beat!
Unfortunately, I have to reference and search items a year old. This is all 2006 emails. I archived all previous files into a separate folder tree. As for my issue, I disabled the email scanning and it works better. I know email scanning is redundant, but it's a nice safety net for all the crooked crap the bad guys send through. thanks How big is Sent Items.dbx? -- Frank Saunders, MS-MVP OE/WM http://www.fjsmjs.com |

After moving all messages out of the default folders, have you compacted?
As for e-mail scanning, it is useless, period. This is from Symantec, but applies to all anti-virus programs. From: http://snipurl.com/bmf6 Is my computer still protected against viruses if I disable Email Scanning? Disabling Email Scanning does not leave you unprotected against viruses that are distributed as email attachments. Norton AntiVirus Auto-Protect scans incoming files as they are saved to your hard drive, including email and email attachments. Email Scanning is just another layer on top of this. To make sure that Auto-Protect is providing the maximum protection, keep Auto-Protect enabled and run LiveUpdate regularly to ensure that you have the most recent virus definitions. -- Bruce Hagen MS-MVP Outlook Express ~IB-CA~ "shank" wrote in message ...
