Default adding a new account

I added a new account to outlook express. When I try to download email I
get the following message:

The server does not support a SSL connection. Account: 'ATT GLOBAL',
Server: 'asmtp.attglobal.net', Protocol: SMTP, Server Response: '250 HELP',
Port: 25, Secure(SSL): Yes, Server Error: 250, Error Number: 0x800CCC7D

The connection to the server has failed. Account: 'ATT GLOBAL', Server:
'popa.attglobal.net', Protocol: POP3, Port: 995, Secure(SSL): Yes, Socket
Error: 10060, Error Number: 0x800CCC0E

What can I do to resolve this?

Why are you using SSL to begin with? Who told you to do that? There are
very few providers who require secure connections. ATT Global has a website
offering users info about how to set up an email account in Outlook Express.
Have you looked at that info?

Check your typing, Carole. Are you certain that "asmtp. " and "apop. "
are correct?

Appears so, base on a Telnet session:

| 220 prserv.net - Maillennium ESMTP/MULTIBOX kcout03 #8
| QUIT
| 221 prserv.net

And:

| +OK (kcpop01) Maillennium POP3/UNIBOX #21
| QUIT
| +OK prserv.net

Probably another issue.

The SMTP server does not answer on port 465. Typically, an SMTP server
requiring SSL uses port 465, not port 25.

The POP3 server does not answer on port 995. Typically, a POP3 server
requiring SSL uses port 995; but if SSL is not supported, uncheck SSL
and use port 110.

The use of SSL is not a user option, it is a mail server option. You
can't check SSL for your mail servers unless those mail servers support
SSL.
