Default Spam, delivery notification

Running Windows XP Pro: OE6
Recently I have been receiving scores of Spam messages annotated, "delivery
notification: delivery has failed" with attachment. This in spite of me not
having sent messages during that period. Can anyone tell me what scam this
is ?
Regards
Skipbs
