After installing an official MS office 2003 update when starting Windows XP
(SP2) an IE instance starts automatically. When then I start either outlook express or internet explorer they freeze when connecting to WEB. If I kill the automatic IE instance using taskmanager everything goes back to normal and both OE and IE connect regularly. I thank in advance whomever may give me useful suggestions on how to solve this issue. |

Do you have a short cut for IE in your Startup folder? If so, you
probably want to remove it. It could also be a short cut to a file that uses IE by default to open, such as an HTML file. Otherwise do a Start, Run, MSCONFIG and look there for things that might be starting IE. Use the following newsgroup for questions or problems with IE6 news://msnews.microsoft.com/microsof...er.ie6.browser You can also get to the Internet Explorer newsgroups via this web site: http://www.microsoft.com/communities...s/default.mspx There select Internet Explorer -- Mike - http://pages.prodigy.net/michael_santovec/techhelp.htm "joe ebay" wrote in message ... Nope, the phantom IEXPLORE instance is still being startup by user SYSTEM.
It blocks any other IE and OE instance I run. I am really getting crazy, do you have other ideas or sources where I could find useful hints ? Thanks again for your kindness. What does the Internet Explorer open? A web page, HTML file, etc.?
That might give a clue. The MSCONFIG Start Up tab shows everything started when Windows start. It either has to be there or has to be started by something there. You might also want to scan for spyware, viruses, etc. Dealing with Unwanted Spyware, Parasites, Toolbars and Search Engines http://www.mvps.org/winhelp2002/unwanted.htm Spyware, Browser Hijackings and other Antisocial Tricks http://inetexplorer.mvps.org/darnit.html Removing Malware http://www.elephantboycomputers.com/...moving_Malware -- Mike - http://pages.prodigy.net/michael_santovec/techhelp.htm "joe ebay" wrote in message ...
