Save the attachment to your hard disk and open it with Microsoft Excel.

If you just need to view and/or print the file (not update it), you can
get a free Excel viewer from Microsoft.

Microsoft Office Converters and Viewers
http://www.microsoft.com/Office/000/viewers.asp

If you need to update the file, you MIGHT be able to open the XLS file
in other spreadsheet program, such as Microsoft WORKS. MS Works can
handle simple XLS files, but not more complicated ones.
