Something has hit both IE and OE. I just d/l'd mozilla firefox and it
works. I tried to download IE 7 but it would not install. I first tried to download IE6 with SP1 but it said I had a later version and wouldn't install. I have ran several registry cleaners, virus scans, and spysweeper and spybot scans but it is very clean. This is a very new Dell computer with XP Home. It was completely up to date with updates. When I click on IE, I get message that IE cannot download / from www.msn.com (my home page)." Then it says, "IE was not able to open this Internet site. The requested site is either unavailable or cannot be found. Please try again later." I do not have a firewall running or installed. I turned off the XP firewall. (XP home). I tried to see if I could do a repair of IE in Add/remove but couldn't find IE in there. Outlook Express opens but doesn't connect.. Spybot can do updates and Mozilla Firefox can get websites so my dsl is working and lan is working. help please!!!!!!!!!!!!! I'm sending this message from other computer. |

Check your settings under Tools | Options | Connection in IE and make sure
they are correct. It sounds as if IE is looking for the wrong connection and OE is following suit. steve "Tonya" wrote in message ... Something has hit both IE and OE. I can't open it long enough to change any settings. It opens for just a
second before showing the error messages mentioned previously. But thanks so much for that wonderful idea. "Steve Cochran" wrote in message ... What error message? Maybe I missed it, but I didn't see any OE
message that you mentioned. And the IE error message that you mentioned should leave IE open. If IE doesn't stay open, I'm wondering if the short cut you are using is trying to install IE not use the existing version. Right click the short cut that you use to start IE and look at Properties. It should say: "C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exe" You can also get to the IE connection settings via Control Panel, Internet Options. It's possible you have a corrupted IE install due to the failed attempts. How to Reinstall or Repair Internet Explorer and Outlook Express in Windows XP http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=318378 Use the following newsgroup for questions or problems with IE6 news://msnews.microsoft.com/microsof...er.ie6.browser You can also get to the Internet Explorer newsgroups via this web site: http://www.microsoft.com/communities...s/default.mspx There select Internet Explorer -- Mike - http://pages.prodigy.net/michael_santovec/techhelp.htm "Tonya" wrote in message .. .
