Default SENDING AN E-MAIL TO A GROUP in OE6

There could be a few reasons. Do you get any Undelivered Mail message from
your postmaster?

ISPs limit the number of people you can send to in one mailing, so that is
something to ask your mail server about.

Here are some general instructions for creating a Group. See if your
criteria matches.

To create a group of contacts:

You can create a single group name (or alias) to use when sending a message
to several contacts at once. Simply create a group name and add individual
contacts to the group. Then, just type the group name in the To box when you
send e-mail.

1.. In the Address Book, select the folder in which you want to create a
group. Click New on the toolbar, and then click New Group.
2.. The Properties dialog box opens. In the Group Name box, type the name
of the group.
3.. There are several ways to add people to the group:
a.. To add a person from your Address Book list, click Select Members,
and then click a name from the Address Book list.
b.. To add a person directly to the group without adding the name to
your Address Book, type the person's name and e-mail address in the lower
half of the Properties dialog box, and then click Add.
c.. To add a person to both the group and your Address Book, click New
Contact and fill in the appropriate information.
d.. To use a directory service, click Select Members, and then click
Find. Select a directory service from the drop-down list at the end of the
text box. After finding and selecting an address, it is automatically added
to your Address Book.
4.. Repeat for each addition until your group is defined.

Note

a.. To view a list of your groups separately from the Address Book listings,
in the Address Book, on the View menu, make sure that Folders and Groups is
selected.

b.. You can create multiple groups, and contacts can belong to more than one
group.

If you want to send to a group without all the addresses being shown to each
recipient, open the Address Book and make a new entry. Enter the group name
in the Display field, but use your address. (Some ISPs require a legitimate
address in the To line, and the recipients will know it is from the group).

Click the To button | Enter the group name using your address in the To
field | Enter the Group in the BCC field.

Default SENDING AN E-MAIL TO A GROUP in OE6

Hi Jack,

Are you using your valid address on the To: line? Many ISP's require this to
validate a message. In this case you should receive a copy of the message.

A common method is to create an address book
entry for yourself with an appropriate display name (name of the group, for
example). Use this entry for the To: line. Enter the group entries on the
Bcc: line. Recipients will see only the display name, although it will be
your address.

A message rule could be used for the display name (People) to avoid filling
your OE Inbox with copies of the messages sent to the group. For example, it
could be rerouted to another folder, the Deleted Items folder or deleted
from the server (care should be taken in this case to avoid deleting other
messages).

Create a Message Rule
In Outlook Express
Tools | Message Rules Mail

Note: "people" can be the display name or a full e-mail address. The full
address would be less likely to interfere with another rule.

Tip: A condition can be reversed in the Advanced section.

1. Select the Conditions for your rule:

Where the From line contains people
Where the Subject line contains specific words
Where the message body contains specific words
Where the To line contains people
Where the CC line contains people
Where the message is marked as priority
Where the message is from the specified account
Where the message size is more than the size
Where the message has an attachment
Where the message is secure
For all messages

Tip: Most rules work best with "stop processing more rules" also selected.

2. Select the Actions for your rule:

Move it to the specific folder
Copy it to the specific folder
Delete it
Forward it to people
Highlight it with color
Flag it
Mark it as read
Mark the message as watched or ignored
Reply with message
Stop processing more rules
Do not Download it from the server
Delete it from server

3. Rule Description (click on an underlined value to edit it):

Correction

A valid address may be required on the To: line, but not necessarily your
own.

If a copy of the message appears in your Sent Items folder, the problem lies
outside of OE, Jack.

How many addressees are in the Group?

If you include yourself in the Group, do you receive the message? How about
if you include your address in the TO line?

The group has 20 e-mail addresses in it. It does appear in my sent box - but
no one actually receives it. My srevice provider is Cox. I included two of
my own e-mail addresses (one aol, one gmail) in the group and neither e-mail
addresses receives the e-mail. Thanks so much. Jack

Jack you omitted an answer to PA Bear's final question.

"How about if you include your address in the TO line?"

Are you scanning outgoing email for viruses?
Turn it off and try again to send.

Perhaps your ISP blocks messages sent to so many people. Try sending only
to yourself and see if you get the message.
