OE6 on a new installation of Windows 2000 worked perfectly at
installation. I then used Outlook Express Backup 6.5 from Genie-Soft to try to move OE from a Windows 98 machine to the Windows 2K machine. After I did the move, which I have done successfully many times before, and after the move reported as being successful, I cannot open the Address Book or any email message in the 2K machine. I get the error message that "This message cannot be opened." "The Address Book is not installed correctly. Reinstall Outlook Express." Well, I've read a ton of articles on reinstalling Outlook Express, but I cannot find one specifically for Windows 2000. One had me try to rename the OE folder, but that didn't work because files were in use. Another (XP) wants me to edit the registry, but I don't want to do that until I confirm that the directions for Win2K are the same as for XP. Please provide any assistance you can. Thanks! |

I am not familiar with the program you used, so I can't speak to that. If
you had asked about moving OE to a new machine, I would have suggested this: Backup & Resto http://www.insideoutlookexpress.com/backup/ http://www.oehelp.com/backup.aspx Backing up and Cloning your OE Identities: http://www.insideoutlookexpress.com/backup/clone.htm If you are transferring to another PC, and have access to a Windows XP setup CD, or if both computers are running Windows XP, see: http://www.microsoft.com/windows/IE/...pten.mspx#EBAA As far as your current problem goes, I don't know if a reinstall of OE will help, or not, but here is the method. How to Reinstall or Repair IE6 and OE6: http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=318378 Although written for WinXP, it works for all Windows operating systems 98 or newer. -- Bruce Hagen MS-MVP Outlook Express ~IB-CA~ "mcp6453" wrote in message ... I went through the reinstall, and the exact error message is Unable to Open the Address Book. The Address Book May Not Be Installed Properly. How do I reinstall just the Address Book? |

And, if I double click on a message, I get this error: The was an error opening this message. An error has occurred. That's helpful. How do I fix it? Since the computer is 1000 miles away, and since I'm working through pcAnywhere, there is no way for me to reinstall the operating system without the computer being returned to me physically. |

Were you running IE/OE6 SP1 on the Win98 machine?
Is MS Office or Outlook also installed on the Win2K machine? May I ask why you reinstalled (apparently) Win2K? -- ~Robear Dyer (PA Bear) MS MVP-Windows (IE/OE, Security, Shell/User) mcp6453 wrote: OE6 on a new installation of Windows 2000 worked perfectly at installation. Were you running IE/OE6 SP1 on the Win98 machine? All of the service packs and updates have been applied. It reports as version 6.00.2800.1123. It should be SP2. Is MS Office or Outlook also installed on the Win2K machine? Yes. Both. May I ask why you reinstalled (apparently) Win2K? Because that was the OS license that came with the computer. It was resinstalled for a fresh start. |
