I cannot seem to be able to remove auto reply from my messages permanently.
How is this done?

This is for an Out Of Office auto reply. Basically the same thing:

If you do this, you will have to leave your computer on 24/7, be connected
to the Internet, and have OE open. If you want do this anyway, the link
below will explain how to do it. One thing I would suggest is that where it
says to create a rule and check For All Messages, you change it and make the
rule for people in your address book only. Otherwise you will be replying to
Spam as well.

Your ISP may offer this service which would be a better choice.

Do you mean that anyone who sends you an e-mail is getting an
auto-reply? If Outlook Express is doing that, it would be via a Message
Rule (Tools, Message Rules, Mail). If you have a rule with an action of
Reply with Message, either Delete the Rule or uncheck the box in front
of the rule. Be sure to use the OK button to exit the dialogs after
making changes.

If that's not the case, then the auto-reply is probably coming from your
mail service. Check with them on how to disable the function.
