I have a client using OE 6. He informs me that following our change-over to a
new hosting service, he is experiencing some trouble with the e-mail server
settings. Particularly, each time he logs off and shuts down his computer,
upon re-start his incoming e-mail server settings revert to 127.0.0.1, and he
has to re-enter them each time. Naturally, this is quite an annoyance. If
anybody could perhaps point me in the right direction to help him out, I'd
appreciate it greatly. I'm rather at a loss, having not been an Outlook
Express user in a number of years.

His Anti-virus (or anti-spam) software changes the POP3 server name to
127.0.0.1 in order to scan the e-mail as it downloads. If this prevents
him from downloading mail, then that software is malfunctioning. Check
with that software manufacturer for update or configuration help, or
disable that software from scanning e-mail.

As long as your anti-virus software is set to scan files as they are
opened, scanning e-mail as it downloads is unnecessary and prone to
problems.
