Whenever I want to print out something in OE, whatever printer I chose to
use, defaults to landscape, and a different paper size other than letter, depending upon the printer chosen. I can go in and change it to portrait and letter, and it will print in portrait and letter size. But the next time I want to print something - it goes back to landscape, and a paper size other than letter. This has not happened in the past - so it seems that something got changed somewhere. But I can't spot where. Does OE in XP Pro SP2 have a setting somewhere that is controlling this? I have tried 4 of my different printers, and they all open up in landscape mode. I've gone into IE, and made my settings there under "Page Setup", and printed out a single page using portrait and letter. I've also tried setting things to portrait and letter in OE, and printed out a sample page. This works one time in both programs, But the next time I go to print, things are back to landscape, and a different paper size, depending upon which printer I select to use. Is there a Registry entry somewhere that I can use, or a setting somewhere that I'm overlooking? This situation is a real PITA. Ron Hirsch |

Options in several third-party applications disallow such changes. These
include Ad-aware's Ad-Watch, Spybot Tea Timer, SpywareBlaster, SpySweeper, Norton AntiVirus, McAfee VirusScan and/or Antispyware, and Zone Alarm (Free and Pro). -- ~Robear Dyer (PA Bear) MS MVP-Windows (IE, OE, Security, Shell/User) Ron Hirsch wrote: Whenever I want to print out something in OE, whatever printer I chose to use, defaults to landscape, and a different paper size other than letter, depending upon the printer chosen. I am using several of the applications you noted. I actually have about 6
"security" programs running. But, I don't understand what you say. You say "disallow such changes". But what/who set them, and won't disallow them and whatever set them, where are those settings defined?. Since the paper sizes called out are "oddball", they must be called for somewhere. To me, it sounds like a Registry entry, but where?? The call for A4 paper size is crazy, as I've never used that size ever. So, what established the A4 size, and the landscape default??? And in another printer, a custom envelope and landscape is called for and defaults to that. It has to be defined somewhere, but where?? I think I've found the solution to this situation.
When calling up a printer in OE, I would then go into the printer properties, and set the page format et al. But, whatever I set was not "sticky". The next time I called for that printer in OE, it reverted to the original setting for paper and orienation. However, if I went into the same "Printer Preferences" window outside of OE, using my desktop icon for that printer, and set the paper preferences et al, they now became "sticky". And, whenever that printer was called for in IE or OE, they were the settings I had made earlier, letter size, and portrait. So, the default settings for the printer must be set "OUTSIDE" of IE and OE, and they will then remain as the defaults for IE and OE. |

Try going to Start, Printers and Faxes, Right click you printer and
change the default settings there. -- Mike - http://pages.prodigy.net/michael_santovec/techhelp.htm "Ron Hirsch" wrote in message ... I am using several of the applications you noted. Michael,
That's exactly what I did. Possibly what I wrote wasn't clear - but I keep icons on my desktop for all my important printers, and those icons are copies of what you stated. After I made my reply I saw that you had figured it out yourself.
