Hello all,
Ran into a very weird problem with newsgroup posts. I am a frequent responder, and an occaisional poster myself. Setup: I created a New newsgroup post, but was unable to finish the post at that time. So, I did a Save of the post, and it was placed in my Drafts folder automatically. Later I returned to complete the post, and then Sent it. Problem: The post (for me) never showed up on the newsgroup. All others in the newsgroup could see my post, but I couldn't. Some folks responded, but I could not see any of their responses. It's as though I had manually Deleted my own post. (I'm sure I didn't... I never even saw it to delete it) Also.. I couldn't see it via OE, but I could see it through Google Groups. Is there an issue with "saving" a partial "newsgroup" post in Drafts, and then Sending that completed post at a later time? Thanks, Al Camp |

Make sure your View settings for the particular news group are set to
View/Current View/Show All Messages and that no other items are checked. See if that fixes it. -- Jim Pickering, MVP, Outlook Express https://mvp.support.microsoft.com/pr...8-1171988A62D6 Please deliver feedback to the newsgroup, so that others can be helped. Hi Jim,
I think we "typed" together before on another OE problem I had quite some months ago. View = All Messages (and has always been set that way) Synchronization = All Messages (and has always been set that way) Jim, this is really a bizarre... and rare... event. I help folks on the MSAccess newsgroups, and post about 1000 responses a year. I often "Save" a draft, then return later to finsh and post. If nothing "obviously" comes to your mind as to what might have happened, I don't want to press the issue because it's very infrequent. The only thing I can hang my hat on is that the bug "acts" as though I had seen my post on the NG, and then deleted it. (I know I didn't...) I did use another "Identity" in OE, and did see my post, just like everyone else could. ** Is there any way I can retrive a deleted post on my regular Identity? ... Hi Jim, ** Is there any way I can retrive a deleted post on my regular Identity? Thanks for your help and your quick reply, Al Campagna Hi Al: The only way to do that would be to right click on the newsgroup having the problem and under Properties, select Reset and then redownload all the messages involved. If you have the View set to Show All and are not "hiding" read messages, it should appear. Any chance you could have clicked on "Catch Up" at some time after posting and before reading the message? Or, are you reading the newsgroup on Comcast's news provider vs. using the msnews.microsoft.com server? Not all servers hosting the groups maintain older messages for the same period of time as Microsoft does. I would assume the post appears correctly in your Sent Items folder? -- Jim Pickering |

Jim,
Well, I really thought that Reset might just do it... Thanks for that tip. I Reset, saw the posts disappear, and then reloaded the last 1000 headers, but still only see my second post and replies. Not the original... that is still missing. Maybe a "server" type problem? So I did a bit of expirementing. I deleted someone else's recent NG post from the group, Reset the group, and re-downloaded. That deleted post returned! Hmmm... had I "inadvertently" deleted the missing post in the first place to cause this problem... as you say...it should have come back on Reset. "Cue the theramin music!" :-D I never use Comcast mail. I always use OE for all my mail and newgroup work. To the best of my knowledge, I didn't use the Catch Up option. I've never been really sure what that does, so I don't ever use it. I just keep all my NGs on "Synch All Messages", and Options for "1000 at a time." But, I will be more aware of that CatchUp possibility, in case this might occur again. Thanks a lot Jim. As I say it's not a critical issue, so we can let it go for now. I'll be glad to try anything you might want to try, but I don't want to tie you up any more on a very rare and un-reproducable bug. Thanks a lot, and take care Jim Al Campagna Candia Computer Consulting - Candia NH http://home.comcast.net/~cccsolutions "Jim Pickering" wrote in message ... "Al Campagna" wrote in message ... ... "Cue the theramin music!" :-D Strange, but then Outlook Express often works in "mysterious" ways. Ask any of the thousands of user who've lost stored messages just by shutting down while a compacting operation is taking place. Wish I had some better ideas and really don't understand why the message would not "re-appear" on a reset. If you want to try something, open another computer to the newsgroup and see if you can find the "message-id" of the problem message and forward it here along with the name of the newsgroup to which it was posted and I'll see if it can be retrieved. Just highlight the message, click Ctrl+F3 and copy/paste the following 2 lines from the header (which will have different info): Message-ID: Newsgroups: microsoft.public.windows.inetexplorer.ie6_outlooke xpress -- Jim Pickering |
