Default Deleting files for old Identities

I have a bunch of old files left over from old, no longer used email
accounts in Outlook Express 6 and I want to remove them.

Some are for Identities that still exist in OE. I have done the
File/folder/delete action and then compacted all folders, but the file(s)
still exists in -

C:\documents and settings\user1\local settings\application
data\identities\{sdklfj etc}\microsoft\outlook express\

or in -

C:\windows\application data\identities\{sdklfj etc}\microsoft\outlook
express\

In some other cases the Identity no longer exists, but the files are still
there.

How can I clean this up? Can anyone walk me thru this or point me to a good
site?

thanks

Default Deleting files for old Identities

Right click on the dbx files you are no longer using and Delete.

For Identities you are no longer using:

In Regedit, navigate to this key:

|--HKEY_CURRENT_USER
|-----Identities
|--------{GUID}

and delete the identities no longer in use.

Just make sure you delete the correct identities and dbx files.

Thanks for the info. Will deleting Identities this way with Regedit affect
anything except Outlook Express?

thanks again!!

Default Deleting files for old Identities

You're welcome.

Deleting the identities in Regedit will only effect OE. (Again, be sure
which ones you are deleting).

Default Deleting files for old Identities

One more follow up please. I checked the registry and I only found 4
Identities listed where you pointed me. However, where the files are
located there are these 4 Identities plus several other old ones. Can I
delete the entire folder for the old Identities that aren't listed in the
Registry?

Related to all of this can you shed any light on why one email account has
its file at:

C:\documents and settings\user1\local settings\application
data\identities\{ew5478t etc}

and the others are at:

C:\windows\application data\identities\{asdf etc}

thanks again

I have never seen a Message Store any place other than the path in Documents
and Settings unless it was move to another location by the user.

Check the creation / change / access dates on those directories
and files for clues. Perhaps they will be related to some update event?
Hint: the easiest way to do that is use the dir command with its /t? switch
in a cmd window

Good luck
