Hello,
I'm having what seems to be a quite unusual problem. My customer recently changed her email from Verizon.net to Yahoo Verizon.net. I am able to log in properly and retrieve her email from the Web mail site; however, when I attempt to log in through OE6, the password keeps getting rejected. I've reset the PW several times, removed and recreated the account, I've tried Mozilla Thunderbird, but nothing seems to work. Yes, the Registry may very well look like spaghetti, by this point in time, but is there any way to re-set Outlook Express so that it will accept the correct PW? Oh, I've also gone to Conrol Panel/Add-Remove Programs, Add-Remove Windows components, un-checked Outlook Express; I don't know what that does, since the program still runs, even though it's un-checked, and I've re-booted the computer. Can someone please help me? Thanks, Ken |

The Invalid password error message can mean that any of the following
are wrong: - POP3 server name - Incoming Mail Server Account Name (some require the full e-mail address , others just want the user part) - Incoming Mail Server Password (often case sensitive) - Incorrect use of Secure Password Authentication (SPA) - few severs use this - Incorrect use of SSL - few servers use this - The mail server is having temporary problems - Anti-Virus scanning e-mail or anti-spam program interfering with the mail server logon Check these settings in Outlook Express at Tools, Accounts, Mail, Properties, Servers (Advanced tab for SSL). Check with your mail service (generally your ISP) for the correct values. If the values seem correct, retype them and click APPLY. In the event that the account settings are corrupted in the registry, it might be necessary to delete the mail account, restart OE and then set up the account again. In some cases it might be necessary to set up a new identity in OE and create the mail account there. Also see: Cannot Save E-Mail Account Password in Outlook Express (Webroot Software Window Washer) http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=228713 Save password setting not retained in Outlook or Outlook Express http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=290684 Also note that Yahoo uses SMTP Authentication for sending. In OE this is specified in Tools, Accounts, Mail, Properties, Servers, Outgoing Mail Server, My Server Requires Authentication. -- Mike - http://pages.prodigy.net/michael_santovec/techhelp.htm "BEVERLEE CLARK" wrote in message news:BswVg.532$YD.70@trndny09... ![]() Hello, The problem has been solved. Since the only thing that I've done differently since reading the responses here has been to create a new identity, that might have been the solution. Or, maybe the Yahoo/Verizon server was just having problems, and now they're not. In any event, my sincere gratitude to all who have responded. Thanks, smackedass |
