I seem to have "lost" the last part of the path where I can find my messages.
I start with C: Documents and Settings, roger,local settings, applications
data, etc....but I do not see \Microsoft\Outlook Express at the very end. I
have used this complete path in the past to back up.

Tools | Options | Maintenance | Store Folder will reveal the location of
your Outlook Express files. Press the Tab key to highlight the folder
location, then Ctrl+C. Close OE, then Start | Run | Ctrl+V will put the
location in the box - Click OK and you'll see the OE files. Otherwise, write
the location down and navigate to it in Windows Explorer.

In WinXP, Win2K & Win2K03, the OE user files (DBX and WAB) are by default
marked as hidden. To view these files in Windows Explorer, you must enable
Show Hidden Files and Folders under Start | Control Panel | Folder Options
Icon | View, or in Windows Explorer | Tools | Folder Options | View.

Thanks for your reply....I'm running XP and trying to view all of my files
so I can back them up. You say by default, the OE user files are hidden...I
have been using the complete path to do my backup and don't recall having any
trouble in finding them but now, I see the complete path as you suggest, but
when I tried to view the "now-hidden" files, I got as far as View and an
error message appeared: "Windows cannot find C:\Documents. Make sure you
typed the name correctly, and then try again. To search for a file, Click the
Start button, and then click Search."

When I did the search, it said it would not look in the hidden files.

I'm still trying to see the complete path in Windows Explorer so I can drop
and drag the files to a backup zip disk.

I really appreciate your prompt help.

Did you uncheck Show Hidden Files and Folders?

When you did the search, did you click Advanced and include Hidden Files and
Folders?

Have you moved the Message Store? Tools | Options | Maintenance | Store
Folder will show the current location.

When I do my Search, I assume I should use All Files and Folders.
What should I type in for the name of the file I am searching for?
The two parts I miss are Microsoft\Outlook Express, which follow the long
string of letters and numbers.

I asssume I should check the 'look for hidden files and folders"

To see the dbx files you must do the following as I previously posted.

In WinXP, Win2K & Win2K03, the OE user files (DBX and WAB) are by default
marked as hidden. To view these files in Windows Explorer, you must enable
Show Hidden Files and Folders under Start | Control Panel | Folder Options
Icon | View, or in Windows Explorer | Tools | Folder Options | View.

If you do a search, you must include Hidden Files and Folders if you did not
do the above.

Search for *.dbx

Open Outlook Express, click Tools/Options/Maintenance and then the Store
Folder button. The path may be highlighted, but if it is not, use the Tab
key to go from field to fielt until it is highlighted, then press Ctrl+C to
copy it to the clipboard. Now click Start/Run and in the address bar, click
once, then press Ctrl+V to copy the file path into it and press OK.
Explorer will open and any files should be displayed (if you have Show
hidden files selected under Tools/Folder Options).

In Search, after choosing "All files and folders" click "More advanced
options" and then "Search hidden files and folders.
