Default Windows Live Mail Beta?

I haven't been paying much attention to this program, but is this
supposed to be the successor to Outlook Express 6 for XP users? Every time
I saw Windows Live Mail Beta mentioned, I figured it was for Vista only.

Since there will be no future upgrades to Outlook Express, Windows Live
Mail - Beta is the program intended for XP users who wish to have a current
mail app. It will not function correctly with earlier operating systems.

Is Windows Live Mail for Windows XP a web-based email program, like
Yahoo and Gmail?

Yes, it's a desktop app that uses the internet to get and display mail, but
it can also serve as a newsgroup reader, which most web based mail apps do
not.

Are you referring to Windows Live Mail or Windows Live Mail Desktop?

Windows Live Mail is web-based and should work on any version of Windows.

Windows Live Mail Desktop is a desktop application and will only work on
Windows XP and Windows Vista. I don't like this program. To put it mildly.

Windows Mail is only available on Vista and is more like OE, but it will not
do Hotmail or any other HTTP mail. For the most part I like this program
and it will probably bec\come my main mail/news program.

LOL. I'm not sure anymore. There are too many similarly-named
programs out there right now. And everything Microsoft related seems to be
in beta testing. Heck, I'm fine with Outlook Express 6 SP2.

And there is also Windows Mail (in Vista). That's three! And MS _promised_
last year that to avoid confusion, their new programs would have names that
were not similar with other programs, like Outlook Express and Outlook. eg

I wonder how they get away with trade marking words like Windows, Mail
and Live.
