They are dbx files in the Outlook Express Message Store.
Tools | Options | Maintenance | Store Folder will reveal the location of your Outlook Express files. Press the Tab key to highlight the folder location, then Ctrl+C. Close OE, then Start | Run | Ctrl+V will put the location in the box - Click OK and you'll see the OE files. Otherwise, write the location down and navigate to it in Windows Explorer. In WinXP, Win2K & Win2K03, the OE user files (DBX and WAB) are by default marked as hidden. To view these files in Windows Explorer, you must enable Show Hidden Files and Folders under Start | Control Panel | Folder Options Icon | View, or in Windows Explorer | Tools | Folder Options | View. You can't read them there. Are you interested in backing them up? Backup & Resto http://www.insideoutlookexpress.com/backup/ -- Bruce Hagen MS-MVP Outlook Express ~IB-CA~ "Candy" wrote in message ... Thanks Ken and Bruce for your answers.
I also have another question that I know probably doesn't belong here, but there are so many groups to choose from. If someone needs to, please move this email to the right group, but please tell me where it is. A few days ago, Yahoo made one of their famous "updates/upgrades". It totally messed up any connections between Mediacom ISP customers and Yahoo. I can't even get signed into my Yahoo ID, let alone a group or an email. If you two, or anyone else, can point me in the right direction, I'd sure appreciate it. Thanks. Candy "Candy" wrote in message ... Not all of them, but yes, some of them, I would like to back up. Which is
the best approach? Thanks in advance for your answer. Candy "Bruce Hagen" wrote: They are dbx files in the Outlook Express Message Store. You must include Folders.dbx in your backup, otherwise the import process
won't work should you need to restore. To keep it simple, you can do either of the following: Create a folder to backup to any place convenient for you on Drive C. In Windows Explorer, open the Message Store and right click on each folder you wish to backup and drag it to the new folder. Select *Copy Here* and not move here. As I said, include Folders.dbx as well. Or, IMHO the easiest, just backup the entire Message Store. If you have to restore the folders, or move them to another machine, you can simply delete the ones you don't want after you import. Your choice. (Can't help with your Yahoo problem, but hopefully someone else will). -- Bruce Hagen MS-MVP Outlook Express ~IB-CA~ "Candy" wrote in message ... I'm probably getting confused on semantics here, but I went to the web site.
I see "backup", "import", "copy", etc. Please forgive me, but my ADHD sometimes makes me hyper-focus on the details. Can you or anyone else give me a clear, concise, process for doing this copy/backup thing with some of my emails? Thanks. Candy "Bruce Hagen" wrote in message ... Old fashioned, simple way, for the Address Book and Messages only.
Open the Address Book in the old identity and File | Export to any place on your HDD that is easy for you. My Documents is fine. To restore, open the Address Book and File | Import and point to where you saved it. To be extra safe, copy it to CD also. For messages: Tools | Options | Maintenance | Store Folder will reveal the location of your Outlook Express files. Press the Tab key to highlight the folder location, then Ctrl+C. Close OE, then Start | Run | Ctrl+V will put the location in the box - Click OK and you'll see the OE files. Otherwise, write the location down and navigate to it in Windows Explorer. To view these files in Windows Explorer, you must enable Show Hidden Files and Folders under Start | Control Panel | Folder Options Icon | View, or in Windows Explorer | Tools | Folder Options | View. Right click on the Outlook Express folder (Message Store) and Send To | My Documents. Copy this to CD also as an extra precaution. To restore if necessary, in OE: File | Import | Messages. Select MSOE 6 and Import from an OE6 Store Directory and point to where you saved it. If you use a CDRW, you can erase it and backup again using the same CD every week or when you feel it necessary. This will backup all your dbx files. As I said, you can save selected files, but backing up the entire Message Store is so much easier. -- Bruce Hagen MS-MVP Outlook Express ~IB-CA~ "Candy" wrote in message ...
