After installing Internet Explorer 7, inline URLs in Outlook Express 6
do nothing when I click on them, regardless of whether IE7 is running already. I have to right-click and copy the shortcut or set them as Favorites to run them. I have seen various "fixes" for this but none have worked so far. I made sure IE7 is the default browser and I checked that the "URL" file association points to IE7 (at least the newer browser icon). I even deleted the "URL" file type and reset the association from scratch. I also tried Start + Run + "regsvr32 urlmon.dll," which did enable OE links for a few browser sessions, but the problem returned and the fix couldn't be repeated. Does anyone have a definite cause & solution for OE6 links that won't load in IE7? Will there be an OE7 release someday? Brad |

Options/settings in several third-party applications may be disallowing the changes you made in those fixes. These include Ad-aware's Ad-Watch, Spybot Tea Timer, SpywareBlaster, SpySweeper, Norton AntiVirus, McAfee VirusScan and/or Antispyware, and Zone Alarm (Free and Pro). The closest thing I have Ad-Aware SE, but I don't see a correlation and I haven't run it in weeks. I have no virus scanner, etc. running in the background. What settings would those be, and why would they not affect IE6? This has been a widely-mentioned issue, starting with IE7 betas. Brad |

I don't have any of those programs and I have the same problem. Brad did you
also try the regsvr32 mshtml.dll to register, mine won't and I suspect that is why the clicking on links won't work John " wrote: PA Bear wrote: Options/settings in several third-party applications may be disallowing the changes you made in those fixes. This file cannot be registered." I see many similar commands at http://www.windowsnetworking.com/art...upted-fix.html, so which one is supposed to do what? I would be hesitant to run those all in a batch. Brad |

I fixed the problem of OE6 links not opening in IE7 following the advice of
Bruce Hagen (MS-MVP Outlook Express). He wrote "Control Panel | Add/Remove Programs | Set Program Access and Defaults | Browser: IE /must/ be chosen here (not default browser) if you are running IE7 and want such links to work." -- Robert D Allendoerfer "john" wrote in message ... yep that's what I got too. I've done that 3 times now to no avail, plus all the other tricks. There must be another factor affecting certain users, but nobody seems to have details. Brad |

Nobody has said what the underlying technical problem is. This article has tips on fixing OE, so I'll give them a try, though it may not be OE's fault in the first place. http://www.microsoft.com/windows/ie/.../oerepair.mspx Brad |
