Default Send Receive Dialog Box disappearing

My send receive dialog box disappears quickly after pressing it even if i
have many e-mails. I know when you press this it will check the e-mail and if
there is no e-mail it disappears but this is not the case. When i press this,
it will start downloading e-mails and is it showing receiving e-mails on the
status bar of outlook but when i press on it, it comes and disappears quickly
again.

Thanks!
