Default OE removed access -- but why?

Has Microsoft affected everybody with this, or did it just happen to me
only?

My OE 6 is no longer properly handling tif attachments. I don't know why,
but they are grayed out and I can't open them or save them. No problem with
tiff attachments.

When I double-click the message, a yellow bar appears, under the OE buttons,
with the following text: "OE removed access to the following unsafe
attachments in your mail: [file name]"

If I forward the message to my Gmail account, then there I can download the
tif file and subsequently open it. Also, the tif attachments in all past
messages are no longer accessible via OE. OE removes access to any tif
attachment from anybody! Again, tiff files are no problem.

The security settings were the culprit -- don't know how they got changed,
or why tif files in particular.
